PETALING JAYA: A factory operator was brought to the sessions court in Taiping today on three charges of giving support to the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group.

Berita Harian reported that Aabid Zarkasi, 28, nodded in understanding after the three charges were read before judge Nabisha Ibrahim by an interpreter.

For the first charge, he was accused of giving aid to IS by keeping in his possession explosive materials for the terrorist group’s activities.

For the second, he was accused of possessing nine videos and five articles in the form of PDF documents, stored in a Xiaomi smartphone, that are linked to IS and terrorist activities.

For the third, he was accused of making explosive materials in preparation for a terrorist action.

All the offences were allegedly committed between Jan 28 and May 15 at Taman Serai Jaya, Bagan Serai, Perak.

The charges are under Sections 130J(1)(a), 130JB(1)(a) and 130JD(1) of the Penal Code.

No plea was recorded and the court offered Aabid no bail.

The judge set July 11 for the submission of the chemistry report and remention of the case.

The prosecution was led by deputy public prosecutors Rullizah Abdul Majid and Lina Hanini Ismail, while Aabid was unrepresented.
