Police yesterday arrested two men who tried to enter Istana Negara with a machete in their car.

According to Kuala Lumpur police chief Rusdi Mohd Isa, the incident happened at about 4.40pm when the suspects arrived at Gate 3 of the National Palace in Perodua Kembara.

"The men told the police officers on duty that they wanted to meet the Yang di-Pertuan Agong. Upon checking, a machete was found inside the suspects' vehicle.

"Following this, the two, aged 29 and 37, were arrested, and both tested negative for drugs," Rusdi said in a statement today.

Rudsi said the case is being investigated under Section 447/511 of the Penal Code, as well as Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958.

"Both suspects have been remanded for four days from today until May 21 to facilitate investigations.

"We urge the public not to speculate or spread uncertain news about the incident," Rusdi cautioned.
