Prime minister refutes allegations from US official claiming Iran reliant on Malaysian-based service providers to move sanctioned product

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia is not a service provider in moving sanctioned Iranian oil, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim amid allegations against Putrajaya.

He added that there was “not one shred of evidence” on the alleged ship-to-ship transfers, as Malaysia does not have the capacity to monitor such activities in international waters, reported Reuters.

Anwar was asked this during an economic forum in Qatar.

Last week, a senior official at the US Treasury Department claimed that Iran was reliant on service providers based in Malaysia to move its oil near Singapore and throughout the region.

Treasury’s undersecretary for terrorism and financial intelligence Brian Nelson said the US was trying to prevent Malaysia from being used by Hamas to fundraise and move money.

During today’s forum, Anwar also said Malaysia had no involvement with Hamas’ military operations, although he has good relations with its political wing.

“I have no involvement or discussion with the military apparatus (of Hamas),” he was quoted as saying.

Malaysia has been a vocal supporter of Palestine.

Anwar met senior Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh earlier and expressed his condolences over the death of Ismail’s sons due to Israel’s siege on Gaza. – May 14, 2024

  1. Anwar Ibrahim is now basically a terrorist supporter, and will lie through his teeth to provide aid to his terrorist buddies.

I have bad feeling how this will end
There WILL be sanctions against the Malaysian financial system, if no positive response is forthcoming from the Malaysia Government after the US Treasury visit.

The fact that this is a visit from the Treasury, Not the State Department should have made it clear to the Malaysian Government how serious the situation is.

  2. Anwar is talking equivalent to "I have no involvement or discussion. With the Gangster enforcers, but I have very good relationship with the Taikor."

  3. "Not one shred if evidence" that Malaysia is guilty us not a real denial. It's a lame excuse "Malaysia does not have the capacity to monitor such activities in international waters".
All it means is the vessels may be 100 meters beyond Malaysian territorial waters.
The service providers are very likely Malaysian companies.

In fact , it may be just a challenge to the other side to publicly provide the evidence. Photographic evidence will not be forthcoming, given the very sensitive nature of nighttime satellite photography. That is Black Ops-level capability that the Yanks keep well under wraps.
More likely , financial documents data may be exposed
At that point, all bets are off .
Sanctions may range from just the service companies involved to the Banks involved to Malaysia's oil exports ( at that point Petronas will be in deep shit.)

  4. M'sia is just been picked to be targeted for this shitty moving sanctioned Iranian oil!

Many other countries OPENLY do it w/o a fear of Yankee's selective & unilaterally sanction.

Check India. Ditto turkey & even RedDot & Japan.

M'sia is been targeted bcoz the Yank seeks exceptional control over the marine traffic over the Malacca strait. The route is militarily strategic when conflicts started in the SCS.
