PETALING JAYA: A woman police officer failed in her attempt to quash the public nuisance charge against her at the Kuala Lumpur magistrates’ court today.

The prosecution told the court that the application submitted on Feb 20 by Sheila Sharon Steven Kumar, better known as Inspector Sheila, had been rejected, Berita Harian reported.

Magistrate Illi Marisqa Khalizan also rescheduled the trial for July 1 and 2 upon the request of Sheila’s lawyer, Anis Salihah Abdul Malek.

Anis said she made the request as lead counsel M Manoharan needed to attend another case at the Court of Appeal on the original dates of June 10 and 11.

In February, Manoharan told reporters that a representation letter had been sent to the Attorney-General’s Chambers seeking to dismiss the public nuisance charge against Sheila.

He said the letter was sent on grounds that the charge faced by his client was trivial.

On Nov 8 last year, Sheila pleaded not guilty to the charge under Section 268 of the Penal Code for public nuisance. If convicted, she could face a fine of up to RM400.

The 35-year-old is said to have caused public harm by being angry, sounding her car horn for a long time and yelling to the point of causing a public nuisance at about 5.30pm on June 16.
