Umno man puzzled over govt's push for more Chinese to join civil service

Kedah Umno information chief Shaiful Hazizy Zainol Abidin was puzzled over the government's campaign to encourage more Chinese to enter the civil workforce.

The New Straits Times quoted Shaiful as saying that improving the country's civil service should be the focus and such a campaign would likely sideline the bumiputera economy in the future.

"There is now government encouragement to increase the entry of the Chinese community to join the civil service due to their purported lack of interest in civil service.

"The civil service has been the platform for Malays to compete on a stage of fairness and equity. If this platform is also to be compromised and limited, the Malay economy will suffer," he said.

Quoting the Statistics Department (DOSM), Shaiful reportedly said that Malaysian Chinese are more attracted to the private sector due to the better wage rate despite identical qualifications and experience to other groups.

He added that the Chinese currently top the list for the highest monthly wage-median at RM4,000 compared to other groups - Indian at RM2,500, and bumiputera at RM2,000.

"The starting salary for Chinese workers is also higher compared to other ethnicities. Chinese individuals have the highest median postgraduate salary of nearly RM3,500 compared to others averaging RM2,000 to RM2,500," he was quoted as saying.

Further commenting on hiring policies, Shaiful reportedly raised concern over how non-Chinese are facing discrimination such as certain requirements set by employers such as proficiency in Mandarin.

"Other groups are burdened by 'requirements' such as mandating Mandarin proficiency, it only adds pressure on the bumiputera," he added.

Previously, the New Straits Times reported that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s political secretary Chan Ming Kai said the government is launching a campaign to boost Chinese-ethnic interest in joining the civil labour force.

Quote: The Chinese community is reluctant to join the civil service due to their purported lack of interest in civil service :Unquote - Biggest kerbau in Malaysia. There used to be tons of Chinese and Indians in the Malayan-Malaysian Civil Service (& Police & Armed Forces) but thanks to the NEP, that trend ended.

In fact the blardy Chinese started the concept of Civil Service in the World. Wikipedia has the following extracts to show:

The origin of the modern meritocratic civil service can be traced back to imperial examination founded in Imperial China. The imperial exam based on merit was designed to select the best administrative officials for the state's bureaucracy. This system had a huge influence on both society and culture in Imperial China and was directly responsible for the creation of a class of scholar-bureaucrats irrespective of their family pedigree.

The first civil service examination system was established by Emperor Wen of Sui. Emperor Yang of Sui established a new category of recommended candidates for the mandarinate in AD 605. The following Tang dynasty (618–907) adopted the same measures for drafting officials, and decreasingly relied on aristocratic recommendations and more and more on promotion based on the results of written examinations. The structure of the examination system was extensively expanded during the reign of Wu Zetian. The system reached its apogee during the Song dynasty.

Maybe the Chinese also started the 'meritocracy' system? And you can bet the examinations those wannabe Mandarins (officials for the Chinese Civil Service) undertook didn't have 6% to 7% as the minimum passing score, wakakaka. 😁😂😃😅😆😉😊
