Transport Minister denies Jeck Seng as new KTMB chairman

TRANSPORT Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook has dismissed rumours of a proposal to designate Tanjung Piai MP Datuk Seri Wee Jeck Seng as the new chairman of Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB).

Loke said he had not been informed of one when asked to confirm the proposal.

“Where did you get that news from? I have not received any information on this,” the DAP secretary-general told reporters on the sidelines of the Maritime Law and Business Conference 2023 at a hotel today.

“The appointment of the KTMB chairman falls under the purview of the Finance Ministry. So far, I have not been informed (by the Finance Ministry) of any such proposal.”

Earlier on May 6, China Press reported that MCA had chosen to promote Wee as the new chairman of KTMB.

Wee will be the first MCA MP to be appointed to a position in the unity government if the appointment is confirmed. He had previously served as the deputy minister commodities and plantation industries under former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s administration.

Currently, the KTMB chairman is Penang UMNO chief Datuk Musa Sheikh Fadzir.

Separately, Loke said he will meet Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief Tan Sri Azam Baki on Tuesday (May 16) over misconduct reports that are said to have been ignored by the road transport department (JPJ).

Moreover, the Finance Ministry has called for a meeting with MRT Corp some time next week to discuss the Penang light rail transit (LRT) project.

“The relevant ministries and agencies will later meet with the Finance Ministry to look at the funding model and make a decision.” — May 12, 2023

  1. The two MCA Wees from Johor are toxic and treacherous, and they obviously prefer supporting PN than PH.

Best for PH to stay more than ten feet away from them.
