Rantau Panjang MP under probe for misuse of fire hydrant
The Local Government Development Ministry will conduct a detailed probe on a Kelantan MP's move to use water from a fire hydrant as an alternative water source for the people during a recent dry spell.
This followed several Facebook postings by Rantau Panjang MP Siti Zailah Mohd Yusoff last month that showed her observing how water from a fire hydrant is channelled into a tanker that distributed free water supply for her constituents.
"Ya Allah, ease all our affairs. We faced floods in the rainy season, and now we face drought," said Zailah in the caption of the photographs.
Astro Awani quoted Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming who confirmed the probe against Zailah.
He also issued a general reminder for elected representatives to show a good example and not misuse water from hydrants meant only for putting out fires.
"Water from the fire hydrant is not intended for normal daily use.
"If everyone used water from the hydrant, what happened in the event of a fire? This incident should not have happened," he was quoted as saying.
On April 20, PAS news organ Harakahdaily quoted Zailah as saying her office had provided tankers with water sourced from a fire hydrant for villagers that faced issues obtaining clean water during the Hari Raya celebration.
