“PAS, Bersatu’s influence in decline, relying on Tun M now,” sneers PKR MP

“PAS, Bersatu’s influence in decline, relying on Tun M now,” sneers PKR MP

AN MP has questioned if PAS and Bersatu’s influence is witnessing a decline so much so that they are forced to rely on former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s “prowess” in the political arena to keep them afloat.

According to Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung, this seems to be the case after Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu had concurred with Dr Mahathir that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim must reveal the wealth he had amassed during his stint as the country’s deputy prime minister and finance minister.

“Prior to this, PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang had signed Dr Mahathir’s ‘Malay Proclamation’ urging the Malays to unite to ‘save’ their race and now Faizal seems to be echoing his statement,” Lee said in a statement on Facebook.

“This has become clear that PAS and Bersatu’s influence is in decline to the point they had to rely on Dr Mahathir’s prowess.”

Lee, who is also PKR communications director, also said he is puzzled how Bersatu leader Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin have been sidelined to make space for Dr Mahathir.

“Congratulations to Dr Mahathir for becoming the PN de facto leader,” Lee said, tongue-in-cheek.

He also said allegations that Anwar had refused to declare his assets were not true as the Prime Minister had declared net assets worth an estimated RM11 mil, as reported by the media on Nov 9 last year.

In a statutory declaration uploaded on the PKR website, the Tambun MP had declared owning assets worth RM828,667.83 in cash and RM10.35 mil in real estate properties as of Oct 31.

“It’s such a shame that Bersatu and PAS – who have often labelled themselves as a clean and trustworthy bloc – have failed to take the necessary steps to build a healthy and transparent political culture,” Lee continued.

In his criticism, Lee called on all Malaysians to openly judge the attitude of the Perikatan Nasional leaders in question.

“It’s clear that their focus is not on how to advance the country’s economy to ease the burden of the people but on opportunistic political manouevres that make them willing to work with just anyone for the sake of staying relevant,” he remarked. – May 10, 2023
