Ku Li made Umno adviser, says source

An Umno division leader says the decision was made at a meeting by the party’s top leadership today.

Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah had been the country’s longest-serving MP before failing to retain the Gua Musang seat in the last general election in November.

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah has been appointed an adviser to the party, according to a source.

The divisional leader, who wished to remain anonymous, said Tengku Razaleigh’s appointment was made during a meeting by Umno’s top leadership.

It is believed that Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, deputy president Mohamad Hasan, and vice-presidents Khaled Nordin, Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail and Johari Ghani attended the meeting earlier today at the World Trade Centre here.

Tengku Razaleigh, popularly known as Ku Li, had been Gua Musang MP since 1974, when the constituency was named Ulu Kelantan. He failed to retain the seat in the last general election (GE15) in November.

He lost to Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate Azizi Abu Naim by 163 votes.

Last year, Tengku Razaleigh said he would bow out of politics after GE15.

  1. Ku Li, for all his personal faults and his age, has a clean record. One the few UMNO leaders who can still claim that.
