“Don’t delay decision on Bersatu offer,” Faizal reminds KJ

BERSATU deputy president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu has advised Khairy Jamaluddin to nor delay his decision on whether to accept Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s offer of a seat on the Bersatu Supreme Council.

Calling Khairy a capable leader who still has a role to play in the nation’s development, Faizal said the former UMNO Youth chief could even start his own party and many Malaysians would line up to join the party.

“My advice to Khairy is this: time waits for no man, brother. But I truly believe he knows for a fact that Perikatan Nasional (PN) is the way forward,” the former Tambun MP said in an interview with FMT.

Faizal also noted that Khairy faces a difficult decision and stated that his party supports the former youth and sports minister’s right to explore his options.

On Monday (May 22), the former Rembau MP was reported as saying that he needed time to think about Muhyiddin’s offer since he did not want to expedite his political comeback despite the upcoming six state elections.

He expressed his gratitude to the Bersatu president for the offer, but emphasised his return to politics must be based on his own political objectives, and not dictated by emotion or need for vengeance.

Recall that last Wednesday (May 17), Muhyiddin, who is also the Pagoh MP, had publicly offered Khairy a seat on the Bersatu Supreme Council, saying he believed the former science, technology and innovation minister could still contribute to the party.

During the 15th General Election (GE15) in November 2022, Khairy had attempted to position himself as a “UMNO reformist”, claiming that the party had lost its way and must “go back to its roots”.

He also pointed out that he wanted to make UMNO a party that Malays could be proud of again.

He narrowly lost the contest for the Sungai Buloh parliamentary seat, a Pakatan Harapan stronghold which was won by R. Ramanan of PKR by 2,693 votes.

He was among those expelled or suspended from UMNO in January this year for allegedly operating against the party’s interests. – May 24, 2023

  1. Hahahaha... Bersatu sounds desperate to get KJ on board.

I'm not particularly impressed with KJ's career so far, but he is the least bad of the ex-UMNO and UMNO pro-PN mob, I suppose.

  2. Bersatu must really be very desperate to try using reverse psychology to get KJ to join them.
