Zuraida says easier now to decide on defending Ampang seat

Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin said it is easier for her to decide whether or not to defend her seat now that she is no longer with Bersatu.

Two weeks ago, the plantation industries and commodities minister left Bersatu to join Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM).

"God willing (I will defend Ampang) because I am moving to a new party, so it's easier to make a decision," she told reporters with a laugh.

Zuraida was met after launching the Malaysian Rubber Council's “Global Funding for Rubber Innovation” event in Kuala Lumpur today.

She has held the Ampang seat for three terms, winning the seat as a member of PKR.

However, she defected from PKR in 2020 to join Bersatu - which she then quit two weeks ago amid a disciplinary probe over her involvement in PBM.

PBM's first electoral foray was in the Johor polls, where they contested four seats and lost their deposits.

Ismail Sabri's prerogative

Meanwhile, Zuraida was coy about what role she would play in the party, saying that her membership application was still being processed.

As for her cabinet post, she said it was Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob's prerogative whether to retain her.

Zuraida said she w
as still waiting for an appointment to see the premier.
