A lawyer representing the family of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) cadet Syamsul Haris Shamsudin questioned DAP and the Bar Council's silence on the student's death.
In a video statement today, Naran Singh drew a comparison between Syamsul's case and how the two organisations had reacted to the death of political aide Teoh Beng Hock in 2009.
"I am puzzled why no one seemed to care about Syamsul (above), who died during a Reserve Officer Training Unit (Rotu) exercise in Skudai, especially the Bar Council and DAP.
"When Teoh died, DAP, especially its leaders Lim Guan Eng, Lim Kit Siang, Anthony Loke, Gobind Singh (Deo) and Ramkarpal (Singh), all of them 'turun padang' to raise funds and to seek justice.
"But in Syamsul's case, why didn’t the Bar Council, and also DAP, take such action, which should be seeking justice. This is what the rakyat and I want to know. I hope DAP and the Bar Council can answer my question," he said.

Syamsul, 22, died at the Kota Tinggi Hospital on July 28. He had undergone Rotu training in Johor before his death.
The victim's mother, Ummu Haiman Bee Daulatgun, suspected foul play after seeing bloodied eyes and bruises on Syamsul’s body before he was buried, which led to her lodging a police report.
Malaysiakini has contacted Loke, who is DAP secretary-general, DAP national chairperson Gobind, and Bar Council officials for comments.
Justice for Teoh
Teoh, who was political secretary to Selangor state executive councillor Ean Yong Hean Wah, was found dead in 2009 after an overnight questioning at the Selangor MACC headquarters at Plaza Masalam in Shah Alam at that time.
A 2011 royal commission of inquiry (RCI) ruled that he was driven to suicide due to aggressive interrogation.

Teoh Beng Hock
Following Teoh's death, political leaders, including those from DAP, had joined a rally in Kelana Jaya to demand justice and demanded that MACC be held accountable.
The Bar Council had reportedly demanded that an RCI be set up to investigate Teoh's death.
