Sanusi under fire over 100,000 jobless young Kedahans
A group calling itself Sekretariat Suara Anak Kedah submits a memorandum to the menteri besar, saying the state's development programme had been a failure

PETALING JAYA: The Kedah state government has been accused of failing to solve the high unemployment rate in the state, with more than 100,000 youths in Kedah said to be still jobless despite claims of large-scale investments being brought into the state.
The accusation was made in a memorandum submitted by a group calling itself Sekretariat Suara Anak Kedah to menteri besar Sanusi Nor, who was urged to deal with key issues affecting the people, Bernama reported.
“The tourism sector has also fallen short, with basic facilities at major sites left neglected, poor cleanliness, and Langkawi failing to generate economic spillover for local residents who continue to struggle,” the group’s director, Sulaiman Ibrahim, was quoted as saying after handing over the memorandum today.
He said the state government’s slogan of Greater Kedah 2050 had been a failure, amounting to mere political rhetoric without tangible improvements in the people’s well-being.
The group also called for the immediate closure of quarries operating near residential areas at Gunung Pulai and Gunung Baling, which are said to be endangering health, safety and biodiversity.
Sulaiman said development efforts were overly concentrated in Kulim through the Kulim Hi-Tech Park project, while interior districts such as Baling, Sik and Yan remain sidelined.
He said the group hoped the menteri besar would provide an immediate explanation, either at the state assembly, or through the media. “Further action will be taken if no response is received soon,” he said. In conjunction with the submission of the memorandum, the group also organised a rally called Himpunan Honggaq Kedah.
