It is inappropriate for anyone to give their own twist to the events immediately following the 2022 general election, said PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh.

She was asked to comment on the party’s former vice-president Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin’s claims about the contest between him and Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

“The unity government’s mandate is (from) the decree of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong at the time. Thus, it is inappropriate for anyone to bring in their own narrative,” Fuziah (above) said in a brief text message last night.

In a recent podcast, Shamsul claimed that he did not challenge the results of the Bagan Datuk contest because of the “bigger picture”, despite Zahid’s wafer-thin majority of 348 votes.

Although disappointed, the PKR leader said he let the issue rest following a conversation with PKR president Anwar Ibrahim at 2am.

Shamsul claimed that after receiving assurance that they were forming a government, he followed the “general’s orders”.

His revelations have drawn brickbats from Umno and PAS.

Among others, Umno lawmaker Azalina Othman Said told Shamsul to respect the democratic process and avoid making statements that could fuel negative speculation.

Perak PAS commissioner Razman Zakaria claimed the disclosure suggested “betrayal, manipulation, and the death of democracy” in Bagan Datuk.
