Pahang Crown Prince Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah has once again called for justice for Alias Awang, the road construction worker who was allegedly attacked by a state royalty.

"He (Alias) is my people (heart emoji), give him some justice now," Tengku Hassanal said in his Instagram story last night, preceded by three other posts, all on the theme of justice prevailing.

The crown prince was responding to a Malaysiakini report on Oct 17 that quoted Alias, who expressed disappointment that action had not been taken against his assailants despite the issue having gone viral.

Alias had told Malaysiakini that he hoped the matter would not be swept under the carpet.

The alleged incident occurred at a stable in Kuantan on June 6, Alias had claimed.

The father of eight went to the alleged scene of the incident after receiving a phone call from an individual, who is believed to be linked to the royalty, to meet him there.

He claimed he was then attacked by around 20 people, including "the son of the son of the Tengku (a royal title)", who also shot at his leg and missed.

One of them had stabbed him in the right thigh with a knife, he claimed.

Alias then lodged a police report on June 8.

Setting example

Tengku Hassanal had previously commented on the case, urging the police to investigate claims that a member of the state’s royal family was allegedly involved in the attack.

“No one is above the law, even ‘royalty’,” he said.

Terengganu Pakatan Harapan chief Raja Kamarul Bahrin Shah praised Tengku Hassanal for this, saying that the crown prince set an example of how royalty should behave.

Last month, Bernama reported Pahang police chief Yahaya Othman as saying the investigation paper in the case has been referred to the deputy public prosecutor.

The police had completed the investigation paper and are now awaiting further instructions, he said.
