Umno Supreme Council member Puad Zarkashi poured scorn on PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang’s plan to liberate the country.

PETALING JAYA
An Umno Supreme Council member has mocked PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang’s ambition of liberating the country, wondering what exactly the Islamic party wanted to unshackle the country from.

Puad Zarkashi said PAS could not even liberate itself from toxic politics or the practice of labelling its rivals as enemies of Islam.

If anything, PAS is in fact a coloniser who invades one’s mind with regressive politics. And it has been going on for far too long. The people should be liberated from such a deviant mindset,
he said in a Facebook post.

On Saturday, Hadi had pleaded for PAS to be given a chance to lead the government, saying the party could form a government with its own seats or in alliance with allies in other parties, and liberate the country without depending on

outsiders
.

He hinted that PAS would contest in the Sabah state assembly elections next year to bolster its chances of gaining federal power after the next general election.

However, Puad said PAS was

daydreaming
about taking control of Sabah, noting it was difficult for the party to even win one seat in Sabah.

In a riposte, PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari questioned the number of seats Umno held in several states, especially in the east coast. He said Umno did not have a single seat in Terengganu, Perlis and Kedah, and only one seat in Kelantan.

Maybe it’s Umno who is daydreaming,
 Fadhli said.

In Sabah, PAS has a seat in the state assembly through its state secretary, Aliakbar Gulasan, who is a nominated assemblyman.

The state assembly’s term expires in October next year if not dissolved earlier; elections must be held within 60 days of dissolution.
