Adding Israel to UN blacklist could ‘increase the vision among the Israeli society’
Tamer Qarmout, associate professor of public policy at Doha Institute for Graduate Studies, says the UN adding the Israeli army to a blacklist of those who harm children in conflict could “increase the vision among the Israeli society and among the Jewish people as well”.
“We have seen this great movement in the US where so many Jewish Americans have demonstrated carrying the slogans ‘Not in Our Name’,” Qarmout told Al Jazeera. “They want to see an end of this genocidal war.”
He added that even “Zionist or the pro-occupation camp” could have difficulty ignoring the implications of the blacklisting.
“The fact now that Israel has to stand – less than 90 years after its establishment that Israel is a state – from a nation that has suffered from the Holocaust to a nation that is facing now so many cases standing ahead of international justice, and they have to answer for all these crimes.”

“We can hear artillery shelling. No one knows what’s happening outside but we know that over a million people have evacuated Rafah for central Gaza and there are hundreds of thousands on the streets, terrified and horrified. They don’t know where to go.”

Foreign journalists must get access to Gaza, says UNRWA chief
UNRWA chief Philippe Lazzarini said international reporters must be given access to the Gaza Strip “to support the heroic work” of Palestinian journalists.
Foreign journalists need access to the war-torn Palestinian territory “so that independent, factual and courageous reporting continues”, Lazzarini said.
The UNRWA chief made the call in a post on social media in which he said it was time for “independent investigations + accountability” in Gaza as “no one is being held accountable”.
And “UN premises damaged, destroyed, targeted or used for military purposes almost on a daily basis” and “humanitarian convoys attacked, looted or denied access”, he added.
As disinformation against UNRWA also continues to “rage”, it “puts the lives of my colleagues in Gaza and elsewhere at risk”, Lazzarini added.
