While the protest rallies over a flag blunder in Penang ended yesterday, the conflict between Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh and Lawyers for Liberty (LFL) director Zaid Malek seems far from over.
Upset with the NGO's counter rally, Akmal took to social media last night to diss Zaid and his group for defending a hardware store owner, who was recently caught on video hanging a Jalur Gemilang upside down.
"They hail the people who hung Malaysia's flag upside down as a hero (but) regard those defending the flag as acting like Zionists.
"This is their behaviour. So, it's true that 'Buang' exists," the Merlimau state assemblyperson said in a Facebook post.
He attached a photo of Zaid and his group during the rally, where a participant was holding a placard that read "Jangan bersikap Zionis" (Do not act like the Zionists).

LFL members during the rally yesterday
It is believed that Akmal was referring to Buang, a villain character in P Ramlee's “Sarjan Hassan” film.
Played by actor Salleh Kamil, Buang was portrayed as a traitor by working for the Japanese occupation force when it invaded Malaya during World War II.
Social media champion
In an immediate response, Zaid branded the Umno Youth leader as a coward.
He claimed that Akmal was only brave to criticise him on social media but did not dare to say it to his face.
"After running away instead of facing me in person, Akmal only dares to talk badly about me when he hides behind social media.
"Clearly, he is only a champion on social media but a coward in reality," Zaid said in a statement.
According to the lawyer, Akmal was only using the group of protesters to intimidate him, the store owner, and those who dared to stand up against the oppression and gangster act by politicians like Akmal.
Zaid claimed that Akmal left instead of defusing the situation when the protesters started berating LFL members.

"'Rupa harimau hati tikus' (looks like a tiger but heart of a mouse) is best to describe such keyboard warriors," Zaid added.
Yesterday, over 100 protesters, including Umno and Bersatu youth wings’ members, gathered in Kepala Batas, Penang, in a rally to "educate" the hardware store owner on how to put up a Jalur Gemilang properly.
At the same time, LFL also brought its group to protect the hardware store owner Pang Chin Tian from harassment.
