Fahmi slams PAS man for
‘irresponsible’ May 13
remark
The government spokesman says Ahmad Marzuk Shaary should not fan racial sentiments.

He said the remark by Ahmad Marzuk Shaary of PAS was also provocative.
“As a member of Parliament, he should be more responsible and not fan (racial) sentiments or raise such issues,” Fahmi told reporters after attending the Impact Communication event for corporate communications.
He added that MPs should use the Dewan Rakyat to promote unity rather than stoke fear among Malaysians.
Marzuk said yesterday that the anti-discrimination law, proposed by DAP’s Lim Guan Eng, could trigger a repeat of the May 13, 1969 racial riots.
He said such legislation could serve as a backdoor for the abolition of Bumiputera rights and privileges, which would disrupt Malaysia’s racial harmony.
Lim had proposed an anti-racial discrimination act in light of racial issues involving political figures and extremists, citing a recent incident involving a hawker in Sepang.
The corn seller sparked controversy by displaying a sign containing a racist slur against Indians and stating that his produce was not for sale to the community. He apologised but has since been arrested by the police.
National unity minister Aaron Ago Dagang had shot down Lim’s proposal, saying such legislation was unnecessary as there were existing laws to tackle racial and religious offences.
Fahmi said MPs should discuss issues responsibly as this would foster national unity instead of creating unnecessary fear and division.
He also said that many from the opposition were irresponsible.
“They should heed the king’s advice and use the Dewan Rakyat to raise issues that can foster unity rather than making a mockery of it or instilling fear, as done by the Pengkalan Chepa MP.”
