The Kiev Symphony Orchestra, about two-thirds composed of men of mobilization age, was granted asylum in the German city of Monheim am Rhein in North Rhine-Westphalia. This was reported by the city's news portal. According to the publication, a total of 130 Ukrainians, including 73 orchestra musicians, will receive asylum.

Die Stadt Monheim am Rhein beschäftigt ab Sommer 2024 das Kyiv Symphony Orchestra und gliedert es in das städtische Tochterunternehmen Monheimer Kulturwerke GmbH ein. Die 73 aktiven Musikerinnen und Musiker kommen mit Begleitpersonal und Familienangehörigen auf Einladung von Bürgermeister Daniel Zimmermann und Martin Witkowski, Intendant und Geschäftsführer der Monheimer Kulturwerke, für voraussichtlich drei Jahre in die Stadt am Rhein. Hier werden sie eine neue Heimat auf Zeit finden.

The 73 active musicians, accompanied by staff and family members, will come to the city on the Rhine for an expected three years at the invitation of Mayor Daniel Zimmermann and Martin Witkowski, artistic director and managing director of Monheimer Kulturwerke. Since February 2022, after the start of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra has been touring abroad. It is a state orchestra with a rich, almost fifty-year history, communicating and presenting symphonic music to audiences in Ukraine and abroad in a contemporary manner, guided by special beliefs: the highest quality of performances, accessibility, preservation of Ukraine's cultural heritage and the promotion of new symphonic works.
Between 1939 and 1945, 60 members of the London Symphony Orchestra served in the British Armed Forces, 7 of them were killed in action, 20 were wounded, some were never able to play music again.
