MALAYSIANS are outraged following allegations by an American former journalist who claimed that about 50 men tried to grope her as she walked from Central Market to Shangri-La Hotel in Kuala Lumpur.

The woman, Christine Hill, made these allegations in response to a viral post from a foreign couple who claimed they were assaulted in India.

Replying to the Twitter thread, Hill wrote, “India is not the only place like this. A white woman walking through Kuala Lumpur can expect to have her breasts groped about every 2 minutes.”

She went on to say that she has lived in Malaysia on and off for eight years and was harassed constantly.

She claimed there were also other white women she knew who encountered the same thing.

“I finally moved to Singapore because I had started carrying a big umbrella with me and whacking anyone who grabbed my boobs.

“Walking from the Central Market to the Shanghai La one day – traffic was terrible – I whacked about 50 men, all Malay, all trying to grab my breasts. That’s when I realised I had to move,” she claimed.

Hill alleged that she even brought up the matter to the most senior political leaders saying it was bad PR for the city.

“They had a name for it and laughed. It’s not rape, it’s sexual assault. A decent country would prosecute this,” she added.

Malaysians found her allegations ridiculous and unrealistic and called her out for it.

“While not denying that sexual assault occurred, Hill’s claim of being molested by about 50 men on her 30-minute walk was nonsensical,” said one netizen.

Most netizens were outraged and called her a liar, criticising her for spreading misinformation with the intent to damage the country’s reputation.

Based on Hill’s allegations, it would mean that an attempted groping took place every 0.6 minutes throughout a 30-minute walk – a figure that seems highly improbable. – The Vibes, March 4, 2024
