PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang has sent a letter of gratitude (menjunjung kasih) to Selangor’s Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

This was after the sultan rebuked Hadi (above) for insulting the Malay rulers and misleading Muslims over a reminder for both to safeguard their faith.

According to Hadi’s office, the letter was sent to the sultan’s private secretary on Monday.

However, the contents of the letter were not revealed.

The announcement was posted on social media just as police turned up at the PAS headquarters in Kuala Lumpur to question the party president over his reminder.

Police are investigating Hadi under the Sedition Act 1948 and the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

On Feb 20, Hadi reminded all Muslims to safeguard their faith, including the rulers, whom he said must consider the hereafter and not just worldly interests.

This is believed to be partly in response to Sultan Sharafuddin calling for calm after the Federal Court quashed several of Kelantan’s syariah criminal provisions for overlapping with federal civil law.

On Feb 29, the Selangor ruler issued a scathing rebuke against Hadi, saying among others that his reminder was “uncivilised”.

The monarch also said Hadi would have understood the real message behind his statement calling for calm had he taken more effort to read and understand the decree.
