Dr Akmal: “Malays will show their power through KK Super Mart boycott”
Dr Akmal: “Malays will show their power through KK Super Mart boycott”
IN a resolute stance against perceived insults to Islam, UMNO Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh has declared an unwavering call for Malay and Muslim individuals to boycott any business entity found guilty of such actions.
Speaking at a meeting with UMNO leadership in Kampung Terentang, Dr Akmal asserted that there would be no compromise with parties inciting anger among Muslims through acts disrespecting religion and the Malay race.
Dr Akmal reiterated his commitment to spearhead a robust boycott campaign against KK Mart supermarkets despite calls for discussion and compromise.
“I represent the voice of Malay and Islam in this country. I have received numerous calls to discuss UMNO Youth’s action in launching a boycott campaign against KK Mart supermarkets; I will not entertain them. Instead, I will continue with an even stronger campaign to boycott the said supermarkets.
“I want to urge all Malay and Muslims from today onwards, we ‘forbid’ our families from entering KK Mart. Let them (KK Mart) know the real power of Malays and Muslims when united in defending our religion.
“We want to show them that an apology is not a solution to this issue because they perceive Malays as weak and quick to forget when apologising. Today, we will demonstrate the power of Malays until it affects your business; then you will know who Malays truly are.”
Dr Akmal, also the UMNO Jasin division chief and Merlimau assemblyman, dismissed concerns regarding backlash from political counterparts, affirming his readiness to confront any opposition.
“I have to act aggressively in defending Islam because if not, we (Malays and Muslims) will continue to be belittled and insulted. They should not think that when in the unity government, UMNO can be led by the nose.
“From now on, it’s a challenging day for us. I am not afraid (to face it) but I hope for prayers and support from all Muslims and Malays. This is not about Dr Akmal, this is not about the UMNO Youth chief, this is about the dignity of Malays and the religion of Islam that we must defend and uphold,” he added.
Moreover, the controversy stemmed from the discovery of socks bearing the word ‘Allah’ sold at KK Mart in Bandar Sunway, which sparked outrage on social media.
While KK Super Mart & Superstore Sdn Bhd issued an apology for the incident, Deputy Prime Minister and UMNO president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi stressed the gravity of the matter, noting its implications beyond religious sensitivities.
Asserting that the issue falls under the categories of 3R (religion, royalty, race), Zahid underscored the importance of accountability and sensitivity among businesses. – March 20, 2024
