Kepong's Dr Tan Seng Giaw ousted by LKS

From MM Online (extracts):

Lim Lip Eng

According to DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng’s announcement of the party’s candidates for Kuala Lumpur federal seats in the 14th general election, incumbent Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng will run in Kepong instead, replacing incumbent Tan Seng Giaw.

Dr Tan Seng Giaw

The other federal seats of Cheras, Seputeh and Bukit Bintang will be contested by their incumbents Tan Kok Wai, Teresa Kok and Fong Kui Lun respectively.

DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang had previously indicated that Yeoh, who was also the Selangor legislative assembly Speaker, would run for her first parliament seat in Segambut after holding office in Subang Jaya for two terms since 2008.

Party veteran Tan, who was not present at today's event, was dropped from the Kuala Lumpur line-up.

Tan, who held Kepong for eight terms since 1982, previously said he would defend the seat, but ultimately left the decision to the party leadership.

Tan was rumoured to have fallen out of favour with the party leadership because of his criticism of the Penang government in managing environmental issues.

This is not good. It's this kind of backstabbing, marginalisation and cronyism that saw many an excellent DAP stalwart ousted.

Tan Seng Giaw is 75 whilst Lim Kit Siang is 77 and recently had a cancer operation - Who do you think should be retired?

Tan Seng Giaw has held Kepong for eight terms in 36 years and now he is ousted by LKS. But I hope he stands as an Independent. He above all DAP MPs deserves this privilege and should be supported by Kepong-ites in the face of a dictatoral and hostile LKS.

That Lim Kit Siang must go for the betterment of the DAP.

    1. Every one and his dog knows that this is coming....when dear leader pockets billions of rakyat's money and this so called stalwart from the Opposition stood by and absolved the thief, and when the thief's biggest spinner who from his hiding hole in foreign land started to show sudden, unusual and strange love for this so called Oppos stalwart, complaining stridently how LKS has stolen top position in DAP which rightfully belongs to this thick-faced so called stalwart....then every one and his dog knew that this day has to come. The other shoe has finally dropped...whew...finally it's done...so please have the grace to leave quietly without more ado and be thankful none of your party members vilify you openly. Be thankful you are not from that DUmno party which will tear you to shreds publicly.

      Hmmmm…mmmmm……

Then WHY the fu*k is the report OSA-ised?

The rakyat CANNOT read for themselves & make judgement ke?

Why hide behind an OSA-ised report & claimed no proofs JUST as he said it!

      Another form of selective amnesia?

Indeed, it's time to go for a retirement that still carries some sense of pride. Otherwise, when the report is made open & further diggings make monkey out of his "no proofs"!

I must give u credit to tie these lks vis-a-vis mamak legacies & tsg vis-a-vis 1MDB PAC report in a same breadth!

WHERE'S the beef in these two issues?

    7. I don't remember LKS ever said we will excuse mamak's sins. I only got the impression that he meant "we will set aside our differences, animosity, ideology and what not (for the time being) and join effort to save Malaysia from the CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER". What after that was never mention. Your allegation is really cruel lah!

  4. I think that the DAP leadership wanted to promote Hannah Yeoh.Because one thing for sure, even if the PH wins Selangor again, she will not be speaker anymore.More likely, this speaker's post will go to a Malay. For Hannah to go back to be an ordinary Assemblywoman is a demotion.

Since Tan Seng Giaw is the next oldest DAP parliamentarian,he had to make way for younger sweetie Hannah. This is called collateral damage, but for a good cause.Hannah still have many more years to contribute, whereas Tan is already on the way to retirement.Even if LKS wins another term,he might step down and make way for a by-election,if PH do not win federal power. There are many good young leaders in the DAP,so Kaytee's Uncle Lim will not be that sorely missed.

I have a question Matey. How come you have a falling out with your longtime idol,LKS?This cannot be a coincidence?

Melania Trump will soon be packing her bags and headed home to NY to be with her beau, and Rudy Giuliani's wife is dumping him like used condoms.Rudy is headed for his fourth divorce.Following him will be Donald Trump.Maybe Donald Trump can go have an adult porn star as his fourth wife.Wakakaka.

And they fight for a morally upright society even if its via Islam, neither are they power-hungry-win-at-all-cost. They fight for the people, which I can relate to TSG, thats why I said his kinda character would suit well in PAS but alas he's not Muslim. Thats their only flaw.

  9. Aging is partly a relative matter, as opposed to the chronological age. The key issue is, do you still have the fire ?

Lim Kit Siang has that; he is still out there every day fighting the fight.

Tan Seng Giaw ? Rather questionable.
I was disappointed with his performance on the PAC.
He could have been a very authoritative figure on the 1MDB scandal, even with the constraint of the 1MDB Auditor-General's report being covered up under the Official Secrets Act.

Instead he waffled and equivocated around the subject. Tired old man indeed.

If he was dropped because of his criticism of the environment in Penang, shouldn't the suspicion fall on Lim Guan Eng ?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. you were disappointed with Tan because you were already biased and did not view his performance with objectivity, namely, that Tan has been a principled man who worked and continues to work for the good of the people and his party, and not behaved like LKS, a provocateur who turns right and then when it suits him, left

Good for the party as in what?

Good for the nation AS IN WHAT?

In actual facts, failed ALL three bcoz the fire in the belly has been extinguished long long time ago due to mellowed mind!

    5. My disappointment was first and foremost on the PAC itself. It self-gutted its 1MDB probe through its own terms of reference. This area out of bounds, that area out of bounds.
Najib's involvement was up-front announced as not under investigation. Foreign derived evidence out of bounds.

Basically a white-wash right from the start.

My disappointment with Tan Seng Giaw was how he kept quite, failed to object , and settled into a "Saya Ikut Perintah" Role.
He failed to voice out that the PAC probe amounted to a whitewash. Nothing objective about TSG's performance.

He forgot that as a DAP MP, he was elected by his constituents to hold the government accountable for its actions.

That is why I call him a Tired Of Man. He should Go, Leave.
      As soon as possible.
So DAP is very right to drop him as an MP Candidate.

Hannah Yeoh is a much, much better choice.

    6. my uncle knew his younger brother, also a DAP MP, at only 21 probably the youngest federal parliamentarian ever in Malaysia.

Anil Netto eulogised him and so did MAGICK RIVER (a pro Anwar Ibrahim blogger), The latter wrote of him in http://www.magickriver.org/2011/12/portrait-of-malaysian-hero.html as follows (extracts only):

In a way, Fan has much in common with another cherished friend, Kua Kia Soong. Both perfectly fit the role of clear-minded, articulate public intellectuals lured into politics because they believed real change was possible, but only through dedicated involvement in the public arena.

Fan and Kua both found themselves joining the DAP – and both had personal issues with the party leadership, perhaps because they were first and foremost scholars and humanists, rather than streetfighters and demagogues - and both can be described as fiercely independent-minded individuals who can only toe any party line so far and no further.

Well, Fan Yew Teng has left us to take his place in the pantheon of cult heroes where he can hobnob with the likes of Martin Luther King, Che Guevara, Bob Marley, Rabindranath Tagore, Kahlil Gibran, Bertrand Russell, Frantz Fanon, Leo Tolstoy, and Teilhard de Chardin.

However, former ISA detainee Kua Kia Soong is alive and well and still actively involved in public affairs through the human rights NGO, Suara Rakyat Malaysia (SUARAM) and through his books - May 13: Declassified Documents on the Malaysian Riots of 1969, Questioning Arms Spending in Malaysia: From Altantuya to Zikorsky, Patriots and Pretenders - to name but a few recent ones.
