AAB has moved up to higher moral grounds by dropping into the National Heart Institute to pay a visit to Dr Mahathir.
However Mokhzani, Dr Mahathir’s son, said that the PM did not have the opportunity to speak to his father during the visit because TDM was sedated in the afternoon before the PM arrived at the Coronary Care Unit at 2.15pm, and thus was asleep.
“At that time, my father was sound asleep. They did not meet.”
Mokhzani appreciated the PM’s visit, saying: “He was just concerned about my father’s well being. He told the doctors that everything possible be done (to ensure the well-being of Mahathir). But the conversation was between myself, the prime minister and the doctors.”
I wonder why [rhetorically speaking, that is ;-) ] Mokhzani and Mahathir’s aides ‘took pains’ (Malaysiakini’s words) to deny initial reports that AAB had spoken with Mahathir during a visit to the institute.
It seems that the denial might have been in response to an ‘unidentified doctor’ (maybe Dr Armnoe?) who informed reporters that there was ‘an exchange of words’ between the two. Needless to say, several news organisations (wonder who owns or own them) ran reports that AAB had spoken with Mahathir.
TDM’s personal aide Sufi Yusoff said emphatically:“He (the doctor) was wrong.”
Sufi also asserted that Abdullah was not denied a personal visit by doctors, but that “visitors are limited to family members only. And don’t say that he was barred,” probably worrying that Malaysiakini may run away with the story in the other direction.
The way KTemoc sees it, the spinmeisters (probably without the knowledge fo AAB himself) even saw opportunities in AAB’s visit as a spinning opportunities. And the opposite camp wasn't going to play ball. Even the condition of a sick man was exploited for every political advantage.
Nonetheless, I believe AAB has gained a little more respect from everyone for his courtesy visit regardless of whether he had spoken to TDM.
Hmmm, I wonder whether TDM would suffer a severe relapse if Anwar Ibrahim were to pay him a visit soon - maybe I shouldn't air ideas like that. The PKR crowd may pick it up with alacrity ;-)
