MM Online - PAS wants RCI on Memali incident:

A Royal Commission of Inquiry should be convened to investigate the deadly Memali police siege from the Mahathir administration, said Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

The PAS deputy president’s call follows a riot at a forum by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s PPBM on Sunday, when questions were asked about the raid in which PAS leader Ibrahim Mahmud @ Ibrahim Libya, 13 villagers and four police officers were killed.

Tuan Ibrahim noted that there were many discrepancies in the various accounts of the Memali incident, and said a thorough investigation was necessary to reveal the truth in the tragedy.

“As such, PAS urges the formation of a RCI to re-examine the Memali tragedy, to give justice to all parties and to clear the names of the innocent,” he said in a statement.

In a veiled swipe at PAS offshoot Amanah, Tuan Ibrahim also asked if those who previously pursued justice for Memali victims have muted their hunger for the truth simply because they needed Dr Mahathir’s political clout for the next general election.

The PAS deputy president’s call also comes after Putrajaya announced a RCI to probe Bank Negara Malaysia’s alleged foreign exchange losses, another controversy from Dr Mahathir’s time as prime minister.

According to previous reports, then-deputy prime minister Tun Musa Hitam had ordered a team of around 200 police officers to lay siege on the remote village near Baling that was occupied by around 400 of the sect’s members, led by Muslim preacher Ibrahim.

The siege was originally meant to detain Ibrahim under the Internal Security Act (ISA) but led to a clash that killed 18 people.

Musa was blamed for the deaths because he had been acting prime minister at the time, as Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was reportedly in China, but the he has since asserted that the former prime minister was in the country on the day.

On the surface of what the public knows about the Memali incident, I find it hard to justify the lawless actions of Ibrahim Libya and mob, though PAS and its supporters deem that incident as a vile police action against innocent Muslims, instigated by then-DPM Musa Hitam.

One truth emerges when Musa revealed that then-PM Mahathir was still in country but had refused to acknowledge his involvement, thus placing the entire responsibility (and any associated blame) on his deputy - a typical Mahathir modus operandi.

Regardless of whether Mahathir as PM ordered the police encirclement or Musa Hitam as DPM did so, the police did the right thing in their lawful suppression of the Memali Muslim mob.

Mind, that's the perception of kaytee who saw the video of some of the villagers armed and in trance - all very bomoh-ishly Melayu and wholly un-Islamic. Of course I acknowledge it was a police video that I saw.

Will Mahathir welcome such an RCI inquiry, at least to ascertain four issues:

(a) Were Ibrahim Libya and mob behaving unlawfully or/and dangerously and in a trance while carrying weapons?

(b) Were above Memali mob threatening the police?

(c) Were the police justified in shooting some of the Memali mob?

(d) Who was the political leader heading the federal government giving the order to the police to conduct said actions, Musa Hitam or Mahathir?

Tuan Ibrahim has been succinct in posing a question now confronting Pakatan Hrapan and which I bet, Lim Kit Siang dares not answer, namely: ... if those who previously pursued justice for Memali victims have muted their hunger for the truth simply because they needed Dr Mahathir’s political clout for the next general election ...

... which I would like to paraphrase as:

... if those who previously pursued justice for Malaysians who suffered during Mahathir's 22-year premiership have muted their hunger for the truth simply because they needed Dr Mahathir’s political clout for the next general election ...?

  2. If armed police can lose four policemen to machete wielding men, than the men must really be in a trance or are willing to sacrifice their lives for a suicide mission to cause harm to the policemen. These have to be very dangerous men.

Why must we now have RCI's on BNM forex trades and Memali. Why after these two incidents happened 2-3 decades ago.If must have RCI's it would have made more sense if RCI's are initiated after the old man stepped down. These fuckups calling for RCI's need to have donkeys sit on their faces.

  3. Would it not make more sense if we have RCI's on freshly committed crimes.Like Felda,Mara and 1MDB?At least the main players and witnesses are now still mostly alive and kicking, and more easily for investigators to dig up evidence?

Like I said before,Isa Samad is going to be the sacrificial land to save Felda parliamentary seats from falling into the opposition's hands. But if there is going to be any trail,it will only take place after the GE14.If Umno/BN wins the GE,it will be Port Klang all over again.Where all the big fishes will be "buang cases".

  4. I wonder why Mahathir hid his presence in Malaysia during the Memali incident to shaft every blame on that to poor Musa Hitam. I and many Malaysians actually support the police action in the Memali action.

But PAS and its supporters have not gotten over their anger at the Memali deaths. To them, who was wrong or right doesn't matter. They want revenge.

all pas wan is power n dedak. memali case is obviously involved entire umno, not solely mahathir.

i know whenever i debate u with facts n reasons, all u could do is name calling.

  5. Bruno has said it ALL:

If armed police can lose four policemen to machete wielding men, than the men must really be in a trance or are willing to sacrifice their lives for a suicide mission to cause harm to the policemen. These have to be very dangerous men.

Some zombies r now asking the wrong question! The death of their brainless cohorts.

Why ain't they asking the death of that 4 policemen, who were just doing their DUTY le!!!

Who ordered the operation is irrelevant as peace to the public at large had to be maintained. Neither were the irrelevancy of the muslims ke, pas ke, mamak ke, Musa ke.

Where's yr priority in maintaining the order of peace of the NATION???

    Truthfully moron!

  6. If the only substantive matter to be settled is whether Mahathir was in country at the time, and whether he unfairly passed the blame to Musa Hitam, that RCI is a waste of time.

Now....what is there to hide over 1MDB, to refuse to convene an RCI for an infinitely more recent case, with criminal convictions already handed out in overseas jurisdiction.
The US DOJ already says Malaysian Official 1 is involved.
What are we waiting for ?
