READERS know this is not a common divorce story when a man hands over his cheating wife to her lover for a cow.
In a video clip on social media, the unnamed man from Desa Puudombi in North Tongauna, North Sulawesi, Indonesia, was seen remaining composed as he participated in a traditional Tolaki ceremony known as Mowea Sarapu or Mosehe. The ritual symbolised the formal transfer of his now-divorced wife to another man.
The man was seen placing a reassuring hand on the other man’s shoulder as he spoke.
“I am handing over her, whom I have already divorced. Please take care of her and never hurt her. She has never been happy with me,” he said with a trembling voice.
The solemn event was attended by local villagers, community elders, and village officials. It was later confirmed by the village head, Safrudin.
According to Tribunnews, they were married for five years before her infidelity was discovered. She and her lover later admitted to the affair.
As part of the Mosehe tradition, the man who broke their marriage was required to fulfil several customary conditions, including providing a cow to replace the buffalo, and paying five mil rupiah, equivalent to about RM1,270. —Oct 6, 2025
