KUALA LUMPUR – The mother of a 16-year-old girl who was tragically stabbed to death at SMK Bandar Utama 4 on Tuesday revealed the horrifying truth about the attack on her daughter.

In an emotional press conference, Wong Lee Ping, described the harrowing ordeal that the teenager went through, and also expressed disappointment over rumours spread on social media.
“My daughter was stabbed 200 times,” said Wong, as she spoke through tears, addressing false reports that circulated online claiming her daughter, Yap Shing Xuen, had been stabbed 50 times.
Wong, 44, clarified that the wounds covered her daughter’s entire body, from her neck to her lungs, as well as her legs. “Some websites said my daughter was stabbed 50 times, but the truth is she was stabbed 200 times,” she said.
The mother described how the attack occurred in the school washroom. “Police told us the boy jumped down from the top of the cubicle because the door was locked. My daughter screamed for help, and people heard her,” Wong explained. “After stabbing her, the boy ran off, leaving my daughter locked inside. When the teachers broke open the door, she was already gone.”
She urged the public to cease spreading false and insensitive information about the case. “My daughter is already a victim. Please stop circulating fake stories about how she died. She did not know the boy, had never spoken to him, and was not in any relationship with him,” Wong said.
Wong, who described Shing Xuen as a bright and loving student, shared that her daughter had recently won second place at the ISKL sports event just two days before the tragedy.
Wong also took the opportunity to warn against online scams exploiting the situation. “Some people are using fake QR codes to solicit donations. Please be careful,” she said, highlighting the family’s distress over fraudulent claims, including one that falsely linked her brother, Wong Yoon Lim, to the suspect. “Some websites said he was the suspect’s father. That’s not true, and he has lodged a police report,” she added.
Her husband, How Boon Chin, was also present at the press conference.
Yap, a Form Three student, was fatally attacked by a 14-year-old male schoolmate at around 9.30am on October 14. The suspect has been arrested and remanded for seven days to assist in investigations.
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek and her deputy Wong Kah Woh visited Nirvana Center KL to offer their condolences to the family.
The wake will be held at Nirvana Center KL (NCKL), Level 3, Imperial Memorial Hall, starting today for five days, allowing relatives, friends, and schoolmates to pay their respects. – October 16, 2025
