TEHRAN, Oct 12 — Iran yesterday said it did not have confidence that its arch-nemesis Israel would respect the terms of a Gaza ceasefire that began a day earlier, following two years of war.

“We warn about the tricks and betrayals of the Zionist regime (Israel) regarding previous agreements... There is absolutely no trust in the Zionist regime,” said Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, pointing to previous ceasefires that have been violated, including in Lebanon.

Araghchi nonetheless reiterated Iran’s support for the ceasefire, saying “any plan that serves to halt these (Israel’s) crimes has always had our support”.

The Iranian foreign ministry on Thursday said the Islamic republic “has always supported any action and initiative that includes stopping the genocidal war, withdrawal of the occupying forces, bringing in humanitarian aid, releasing Palestinian prisoners and realising the fundamental rights of the Palestinians”.

Iran and Israel fought a 12-day war in June that began when Israel launched unprecedented strikes on Iranian nuclear and military installations.

Araghchi said Iran had received a message relayed by Russia indicating that Israel did not want any new confrontation with the Islamic republic.

“Apparently three or four days ago there was a telephone call between (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu and (Russian President Vladimir) Putin,” he added.

“Netanyahu emphasised that he had no intention of restarting a war with Iran,” he said, adding that the message was relayed to Tehran’s ambassador in Russia. — AFP

“Three or four nights ago, there was a phone call between Putin and Netanyahu.

The next day, our ambassador in Moscow was summoned, and Russia conveyed Netanyahu’s message that he does not intend to start another war with our country.

Iran’s armed forces are at high alert because there is a high possibility of deception by Israel and we do not trust these intentions.”

🇺🇸🇮🇱TRUMP TO MAKE SHORTEST VISIT EVER TO ISRAEL

Monday's trip will be the briefest visit by a U.S president to Israel in history, with Trump staying just 3 hours and 40 minutes.

Air Force One is set to land at Ben Gurion Airport at 9:20 a.m., where Netanyahu, President Herzog, U.S and Israeli ambassadors will greet him.

From the tarmac, Trump will speed to the Knesset in his armored limo, shutting down Highway 1 in both directions. There, he’ll visit with hostage families and address the Knesset at 11:00 a.m.

He won’t meet freed hostages - medical concerns cited - and won’t visit the Western Wall.

At 1:00 pm, he flies to Egypt for a Gaza summit alongside Arab and European leaders to witness the signing of his peace deal.

🇮🇱🇵🇸 HAMAS: HOSTAGE RELEASE TO BEGIN MONDAY MORNING

Top Hamas official Osama Hamdan said that the release of 48 hostages in Gaza will start Monday morning under the ceasefire deal.

In return, Israel is expected to release around 2,000 Palestinian prisoners as part of the deal's first phase.

Of the 48 hostages, only 20 are believed to be alive - Hamas has warned it may not locate all the bodies of the deceased within the 72-hour window.
