THE TWIN DISASTERS ABOUT TO STRIKE MALAYSIA

And no one seems to be doing anything about them.

  • No Malaysia is not being "rocked" by the resignations of the two Cabinet ministers.
  • They  can go and jump in the sea.
  • It will not make any difference.
  • Who told me this?
  • YOU told me this - dear reader.
  • Dear reader, you tell me.
  • These clowns along with 30 other clowns in the Almari have been in office for two and a half years already.
  • What have they done for the country?
  • Have things got better or have things got worse?

A 30 year old boy has been locked up for nine months now simply because he did not like his neck being licked by other than a pet cat or puppy. And no one can help this boy? What kind of a country are we living in?  And Mr Licker (or Sucker) is pulling all sorts of stunts to keep the boy from having his day in a Court of Law.  What type of society is this?

(Yo all of you fools, after you shake his hands make sure you wash your hands with Sabun Serbaguna Cap Kapak. You just dont know in whose exhaust pipe the fellow has stuck his hands before he shakes yours).

Disaster no. 1 is now 38 days away - July 8th. That is when we are going to be hit by Donald Trump's Tariffs. I think it is going to happen. And what are we doing about it? Anything? Nothing?

That 24% appears to be a baseline tariff. A starting point. It could go higher. Microchips may be given some reprieve but not forever.  Vietnam has to grapple with 46% tariffs. Imagine what will happen to Bayan Lepas in Penang when (not if) our microchips are hit with high tariffs.

Only the Chinese appear to be making headway in their discussions with the Americans. They are America's single largest trading partner. The Americans have already given the Chinese an extra one month - until August 8th - to come to an agreement on their mutual tariffs. Meaning they will most likely come to some agreement. If the US and China come to terms on the tariffs then the Americans will possibly apply the same model to all other countries. So better watch out.

Some cock-eyed people are trying to blame Trump for imposing high tariffs. Look at it with your other cock-eye 'How is it ok for YOUR country to impose high import tariffs on American goods but it is not ok for America to impose tariffs on your goods?'  Where did you learn business or economics? Under the coconut tree?

This is what Donald Trump is saying. You lower your tariffs against my goods then I will lower my tariffs against your goods. Free trade.

Because of tariffs (direct and indirect) the Ford Mustang sold here in Malaysia for RM460,000 to RM600,000. The same car sells in the US for about RM140,000. How can that be possible? But that is what has been happening.   It is called direct and indirect tariffs.

  • Donald Trump will actually make our lives easier.
  • Imagine buying a Ford Mustang for RM140,000.
  • Then the other RM140,00 tin-can cars must cut their prices to below RM100,000.
  • Isnt that a good thing?
  • Think people, think.
  • Please use your otak.

If they dont cut tariffs (direct and indirect) by July 8th, then Disaster no. 1 is now 38 days away - July 8th.

Disaster No. 2 is much more serious than American tariffs.

  • Eateries feeling the heat
  • Going purple: restaurants have to phase out using household gas cylinders
  • May 1 eateries, hawker stalls, barred from using subsidised gas cylinders
  • Instead use new purple 14kg commercial gas cylinders
  • RM70 – 3 times the price
  • subsidised gas cylinders sold at just RM26.
  • also required to apply for yearly permit for more than three such cylinders
  • (Why and what the hell for? Esok kentut pun perlu ada permit kah?)
  • crack down to ensure food and beverage industry complies.
  • May 1, kickstarted Ops Gasak
  • Since then, seized RM883,000 worth of gas cylinders
  • LPG subsidy cost gomen RM3.4bil
  • premises using more than three cylinders - must apply for a permit
  • Industry warn switch to commercial gas lead to price hikes.
  • This change will affect our costs.
  • noodle shop selling 70 bowls using two cylinders in a day
  • price of noodles will increase more than RM1 per bowl.
  • small restaurant uses about 100 cylinders per month, RM2,600
  • now we will have to fork out RM7,000.
  • that cost will eventually translate to the price of food.

My Comments:

Yesterday I had lunch at an eatery in PJ. The owner says he uses 4 to 5 gas tanks a day. Say 150 gas tanks a month. He now pays RM3,900 a month for cooking gas. With the price hike to RM70 per tank (the owner said he has to pay RM72 per tank) his gas cost will become RM10,800.

That is like paying the rental for another shop altogether.

So what is going to happen? Simple. The price of teh tarik is going to go up who knows maybe another 20-30 sen. Roti canai may go up 20 sen or more. Your simple meal (rice, one meat and one vege with a drink) already costs anywhere between RM9.00 to RM15.00.  This is going to jump up. Prices of cooked food are going to jump up.

People will have to eat less outside. Or pack their own lunch from home. Eateries are going to suffer losses.

  • That mee stall owner will now have to sell 25 bowls of mee  just to cover the cost of his two gas tanks.
  • Before the price hike he only has to sell about 10 bowls of mee a day to cover his daily gas cost.
  • He now sells 70 bowls of mee a day.
  • If the price of mee increases by RM1.00 his sales will dip below 70 bowls a day.
  • The stall operators lives are going to become more difficult.

What about the makcik nasi lemak or the makcik selling tom yam. Can she afford to pay RM140 cash everyday for say TWO GAS cylinders? Will her warong have that kind of cash flow? Plenty of warongs and restaurants are going to lose their customers.

Unless they close one eye against the makcik warong - which happens all the time. Warong people operate everywheres, no need Fomema screening, no need Hepatitis jabs, no need grease traps, no need garbage disposal (just dump it behind the warong).

Why do they like to make peoples' lives difficult all the time? Dont forget in July that e-invoice bullshit also kicks in. They will kill off the economy. Food prices are going to go up again.

Ordinary peoples' lives are going to become more difficult.

Instead of removing the subsidies on cooking gas, the gomen should INCREASE the subsidies on cooking gas. WHY? Because it directly impacts the cost of living for the entire country of 34 million people.

Why can't subsidise gas if we're 5th largest exporter - Wee

Why can't subsidise gas if we're 5th largest exporter - Wee

Summary

  • MCA president Wee Ka Siong asks why Malaysia can’t subsidise gas for small traders since it’s the fifth-largest exporter of liquefied natural gas.

  • He also asks why the billions of investments Malaysia has received are not going towards subsidising gas consumption.

  • He questions why eateries must use commercial gas cylinders, which are more expensive and will cause higher food prices for the people.

Why can’t Malaysia subsidise gas for small traders if the country is the fifth-largest exporter of liquefied natural gas (LNG), asked MCA president Wee Ka Siong.

Citing a report from the International Gas Union last year, he said Malaysia had exported approximately seven percent of the LNG in the world in 2023.

“Great in the eyes of the world, but Malaysians themselves do not receive the benefits,” he said in a video posted to Facebook.

He went on to condemn the government’s subsidy rationalisation, asking why the billions of investments Malaysia receives are not going towards subsidising gas consumption for the people.

He said MCA supports the government’s goal to target subsidies and handle leakages, but warned against this affecting other bigger issues.

He further questioned why eateries have been barred from using subsidised gas cylinders for households, instead being instructed to use commercial gas cylinders.

He said commercial gas cylinders cost RM70, a 170 percent increase compared to the subsidised cylinders, which cost RM26.60 for the same weight of 14kg.

“So in the end, who will bear the cost of this price increase? Who will have to pay more?

“The answer is, of course, the people as consumers,” he said.

According to The Rakyat Post, the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry began a policy on May 1, restricting subsidised LNG to households under Ops Gasak.

Impacting various sectors

Besides that, Wee questioned why traders have to request a permit for using more than three gas cylinders a month.

“If they don’t have a permit, they will be subject to action. Their goods and premises will be seized through Ops Gasak,” he said.

In the video, he shared part of a statement from the ministry stating that any business or traders consuming more than 42kg of LNG must apply for a scheduled controlled goods permit.

It stated that sectors impacted by this policy include manufacturing, food and beverage, animal husbandry, laundry services, large-scale restaurants, and food chains.

Wee added that the businesses of small traders do not lead them to riches, but instead help them to put food on the table.

AGC: Anwar’s constitutional bid to Federal Court is structural, not meant to provide personal immunity

KUALA LUMPUR, May 31 — The application by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to refer several constitutional questions to the Federal Court, under Article 128(2) of the Federal Constitution and Section 84 of the Courts of Judicature Act 1964, is not intended to create absolute immunity for any individual.

According to the Attorney General's Chambers (AGC), these questions raise new and unprecedented constitutional issues, particularly concerning the relationship between civil litigation and the ability of a sitting prime minister to effectively perform executive functions.

The AGC stated that the eight questions include, among others, whether civil actions related to pre-office conduct can proceed if they undermine the Prime Minister's ability to govern.

“Whether the Constitution implicitly requires judicial threshold review in such cases, and whether Articles 5(1), 8(1), 39, 40, and 43 of the Federal Constitution support procedural protection to safeguard the separation of powers and institutional stability,” the AGC said in a statement released today in Kuala Lumpur.

The AGC clarified that these questions are structural in nature regarding constitutional governance, not about personal immunity.

The AGC further explained that the constitutional reference process was established to enable the High Court and Federal Court to make conclusive determinations on such issues.

The AGC respects the integrity of this constitutional mechanism and will evaluate any request for intervention based on legal merit and public interest, rather than politically charged sentiments.

Furthermore, the AGC emphasised that any decision regarding the effect of constitutional provisions rests solely within the jurisdiction of the Federal Court under Article 128(2) of the Federal Constitution.

On May 27, the Prime Minister applied to refer eight legal questions to the Federal Court for decision. This application includes the question of whether he possesses immunity from a civil suit filed by his former researcher, Yusoff Rawther, four years ago.

Anwar also requested the court to consider whether the lawsuit impacts his ability to carry out executive duties and undermines the principle of separation of powers guaranteed by the constitution. — Bernama

SINGAPORE, May 31 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reiterated that Malaysia, as Chair for ASEAN 2025, is committed to defending ASEAN’s centrality and promoting its active non-alignment.

Speaking at the 22nd Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore on Saturday, Anwar cautioned against a new orthodoxy that not only affects how diplomacy is viewed but also how security will be structured, risking the fragmentation of the regional architecture and undermining Southeast Asia’s strategic autonomy.

“Preserving our autonomy is not about resisting others. It is about strengthening ourselves. This, in essence, is what ASEAN Centrality is about.

“We do not object to like-minded partners talking amongst themselves. But coalitions that build walls instead of bridges, stoke arms competition, or undermine the legitimacy of multilateralism should give us pause.

“A stable region is not one braced for conflict, but one grounded in openness, transparency, and habit-forming cooperation,” he said.

He also stressed that Southeast Asia does not need a new Cold War, but rather an equilibrium that promotes cooperation without coercion and balance without bloc politics.

Anwar said that ASEAN, through decades of consensus-building, was built to foster stability in a region where peace is sustained, freedom is protected, and neutrality is respected.

“If this Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone is a glimpse of what cooperation can achieve at the bilateral level, then ASEAN is the wider canvas.”

“ASEAN was never meant to dominate or dictate. That foundation still holds,” he said.

Referring to the recently concluded 46th ASEAN Summit and related summits in Kuala Lumpur, the Prime Minister described them as substantive and productive summits, where several historic agendas were made.

These include the adoption of the Kuala Lumpur Declaration on ASEAN 2045, a decision on Timor-Leste’s admission to the bloc and on the Myanmar situation.

The convening of the ASEAN-GCC Summit and ASEAN-GCC-China Summit, meanwhile, is strengthening ASEAN’s strategic aperture.

Anwar reiterated Malaysia’s concern about rising tensions in the South China Sea amid its complex dispute and called for calm, direct and consistent engagement with all parties.

“We have no interest in seeing tensions spiral into confrontation, least of all in waters so critical to our own security and prosperity.

“We will urge restraint, encourage dialogue, and work to preserve the stability on which this region depends. Above all, we remain steadfast in our principled insistence that all parties uphold the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS),” he said.

The prime minister said Malaysia does not subscribe to the concept of spheres of influence, stressing that history has shown how such divisions by major powers often render smaller nations voiceless.

He said that true stability does not come from dividing the world into zones of control, but from creating space for all countries to participate meaningfully in shaping the global order.

As such, he reaffirmed Malaysia’s commitment to pursue an active non-alignment approach in its foreign policy and to maximise its own strategic space.

While welcoming a strong and enduring United States (US) presence in the region, Anwar stressed the importance of maintaining firm and vibrant ties with China, as well as strengthening partnerships across Asia, Europe and the Global South.

“We will engage all who are willing - major powers and middle powers alike - not to set one against the other, but to maximise our own strategic space.

“For Malaysia, this is a deliberate and strategic posture: to help preserve an open region, to assert our sovereignty, and to make our own choices - on our own terms,” he said. — Bernama

DAP ministers should resign over Teoh Beng Hock's NFA as a sign of respect

DAP ministers should resign over Teoh Beng Hock's NFA as a sign of respect

The Attorney-General’s Chambers has decided to classify the investigation into Teoh’s case as requiring no further action (NFA).

In response to the decision, the Teoh Beng Hock Association for Democratic Advancement has called for all DAP ministers to resign.

Its chairman, Ng Yap Hwa, called for transport minister Loke Siew Fook, digital minister Gobind Singh Deo, housing and local government minister Nga Kor Ming, human resources minister Steven Sim, and youth and sports minister Hannah Yeoh to quit their posts.

“They should take full political responsibility on behalf of DAP for failing to fulfil the party’s past promises regarding Teoh’s case.

“This would be the best demonstration of DAP’s commitment to accountability,” Ng said in a statement.

Now why is Nga just calling on DAP ministers, and not prime minister Anwar or the home minister or the law minister to resign ?

Well, I for one think that it might be because the late Teoh Beng Hock was a member of DAP and he likely died in service of DAP.

I say that, because the late Teoh was found dead on the fifth-floor landing of the Plaza Masalam building, the day after he was detained overnight for questioning as a witness by Selangor MACC officers, to assist in the probe of a suspected corruption case, involving PH lawmakers.

The late Teoh Beng hock was not even a suspect in the corruption case, he had merely been called to provide information as a witness, in a case involving PH lawmakers.

When he was found dead at the foot of the MACC building, he was just 30 years of age.

That he had died so young, in a case that didn’t even involve him personally, but DAP, does certainly put the onus on DAP to bring closure to the suspicious circumstances around his death, not only to bring peace to the departed, if you believe in such things, or to assist his loved ones to make peace with the circumstances surrounding his death, but also to safeguard the reputation of DAP as a party worthy of respect.

I don’t know how anyone from DAP is even facing his family members today, now that his case has been closed as NFA by the authorities, although not a single person has been held responsible for his death.

If DAP was a part of the opposition we can understand why DAP might not have the power to do anything to bring closure to the death of the late Teoh Beng Hock, but now that it is in power, what excuse does it have ?

What is DAP telling Teoh Beng Hock’s family when they see them? The past is the past, let bygones be bygones? Here, take some money, go eat, drink and be merry, and forget about what happened to your brother, son, husband and father?

We all want to succeed in life, but we cannot be so wretched, as to enjoy our success in life, while condemning someone who died for our success to die in vain, while their family suffer in silence.

If the authorities truly cannot find the person responsible for Teoh Beng Hock’s death, because 16 years has passed, the least that DAP can do, now that it is in power, to bring the matter to a proper closure, is censure, fire or demote the people who were investigating Teoh Beng Hock’s death or the people who were in charge of the case that caused Teoh Beng Hock’s death.

Malaysians of all persuasions will like understand it if DAP pushes for somebody to be fired or demoted as a means to give closure to Teoh Beng Hock’s death – all of us, regardless of race or religion, do find it disturbing that a witness to MACC was found death after being detained to assist in an investigation, without anyone taking responsibility for his death. None of us, I am quite sure, will be the least bit disapproving, if the people who headed the agency at that time were censured or had their titles and privileges revoked, as a response to their failure to prevent or answer for Teoh Beng Hock’s death.

Considering that, couldn’t DAP find even one person to censure, fire, demote or strip of their titles and privileges, in order to bring closure to Teoh Beng Hock’s death?

If it can’t, then I think it is perfectly reasonable for us to expect the DAP ministers to take responsibility for Teoh Beng Hock’s death to resign from their position.

If they really can’t find anyone to hold responsible for Teoh Beng Hock’s death, then the least they can do is hold themselves responsible and resign their position as ministers, a position they only succeeded to obtain because someone like Teoh Beng Hock stoody by DAP, even if he had to lose his life doing it, to bring the matter to a close.

kt comments:

The worst DAP coward-opportunist has been none other than LKS, who said he (& DAP) was going to continue to highlight the injustice of Teoh Beng Hock’s unresolved murder, and boasted "Malaysians will not rest until justice is done for the killing of Teoh Beng Hock".

BUT in a mere frigging one year, he was already "sleeping with the MACC enemy". In a highly publicised event, LKS shook hands with Rohaizad Yaakob, a top Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) official to show the opposition’s solidarity with the MACC.

Let us not forget Teoh Beng Hock

Alas, someone in the DAP might have forgotten
The evil that was perpetuated on a young man
By a Nazi-like organization that has been rotten
Yet easily forgiven by a political flash in the pan

All for grubby politics, none for integrity nor justice
For a man slain on the very eve of his wedding day
Oh we weep, what treachery to become so solicitous
To abandon principles, an evil crime now is gainsay

DAP leader Lim Kit Siang shook hands with Rohaizad Yaakob, a top Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) official to show the opposition’s solidarity with the MACC

Yet just a year earlier Kit Siang in his article, titled "Malaysians will not rest until justice is done for the killing of Teoh Beng Hock" said DAP and Pakatan Rakyat would continue to highlight the injustice of Teoh Beng Hock’s unresolved murder

what utter bullshit

But I haven't!

When is the MACC going to hand over to the police the person responsible for the untimely death of Teoh Beng Hock?

Such treachery, such deceit, such betrayal - Teoh Beng Hock would NOT have been able to rest in peace knowing he had been so swiftly abandoned by LKS (DAP) because of DAP's political opportunism.

SINGAPORE, May 31 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged the international community to act decisively and consistently in response to the genocide in Gaza.

Delivering his Special Address at the 22nd Shangri-La Dialogue here, Anwar said the scale of devastation, blatant disregard for humanitarian norms, and the failure of global institutions to effectively address the conflict demand more than expressions of sympathy.

“We must not allow selective outrage or strategic fatigue to dull our moral clarity. Indeed, the genocide in Gaza is a test of our collective conscience,” he said.

Anwar also described the current global landscape — with the number of armed conflicts at its highest since the end of the Second World War — as a sobering moment in history.

He stressed that Malaysia is under no illusions about the security challenges ahead, noting that lasting stability must be rooted in sound fundamentals, clear policies, and a long-term vision.

Anwar also stressed that ASEAN is not passive in addressing the crisis in Myanmar.

He said that while the bloc does not aim to dictate the country’s political outcome, it remains firm on the expectations outlined in the Five-Point Consensus on Myanmar.

“Myanmar’s nationhood must be forged through inclusion, not erasure,” he said.

On the South China Sea, Anwar said Malaysia remains deeply concerned about the potential for escalation among the claimant states and will continue to engage all parties calmly, directly and consistently.

“We have no interest in seeing tensions spiral into confrontation - least of all in waters so critical to our own security and prosperity,” he added.

Anwar said that above all, Malaysia remains steadfast in its principled insistence that all parties uphold the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

The Prime Minister also cautioned against coalitions that could undermine the legitimacy of multilateralism, stressing that a stable region must be grounded in openness, transparency, and habit-forming cooperation.

“We do not object to like-minded partners talking amongst themselves. However, coalitions that build walls instead of bridges, stoke arms competition, or undermine the legitimacy of multilateralism should give us pause,” he said.

The Shangri-La Dialogue, a premier defence and security conference in the Asia-Pacific region, features participation from 47 countries, including 40 ministerial-level delegates, 20 chiefs of defence forces, over 20 senior defence officials, and leading academics from across the region.

Earlier, Anwar also met with United States Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth as well as Boeing Global president and Boeing Company senior vice president Dr Brendan Nelson on the sidelines of the dialogue. — Bernama

SERIAN, May 31 — UMNO is seeking to retain its full allocation of seven ministerial positions in the Federal Cabinet following the resignation of Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz from the party, its president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also Deputy Prime Minister and Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman, expressed confidence that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim would consider reinstating the allocation in line with UMNO’s role in the unity government.

“To me, what’s more important is that UMNO remains represented by seven full ministers in the Cabinet. Although we are unsure whether Tengku Zafrul’s appointment was on UMNO’s ticket, we had assumed he represented the party.

“Now that he is no longer with UMNO, the number drops to six. So, it is only fair for UMNO to request that the seat be returned to us,” he told reporters after attending the Sarawak RISDA 2025 ‘Makmur’ Smallholders programme and pre-Gawai celebration here today.

Ahmad Zahid also confirmed that the party has received Tengku Zafrul’s resignation letter, which was submitted to UMNO Executive Secretary Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan.

“Yesterday, when we checked, it had not been received. But this morning, we verified that the letter had been delivered to Mohd Sumali. We acknowledge his resignation and withdrawal of membership from UMNO,” he said.

Tengku Zafrul, who is Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, had yesterday announced his resignation from UMNO, including from his posts as Supreme Council member and Kota Raja division chief.

He also disclosed his intention to join Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), having informed PKR President Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and secretary-general Dr Fuziah Salleh.

Ahmad Zahid said UMNO’s legal team will review whether Tengku Zafrul has breached the agreement signed during the 15th General Election (GE15), which binds candidates to the party.

“For GE15 candidates, there is a clause in their statutory declaration that allows the party to impose a RM100 million penalty if they leave. Tengku Zafrul contested but lost, and was later appointed as a Senator. I will consult our legal advisers to examine the implications,” he said. — Bernama

GOMBAK, May 31 – Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has today downplayed speculation that Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz’s entry into PKR was part of a plan to replace him.

The PKR vice-president also jokingly said he had asked Tengku Zafrul to pray for his job security while the latter is performing the Haj in Mecca.

“In my view, it’s a long shot. I don’t think that path is likely, as it would require a by-election,” he was quoted saying by Kosmo!, referring to Tengku Zafrul replacing him.

“We only have about two and a half years left in the term, so there isn’t much room to manoeuvre. We’ll have to monitor any developments.”

Amirudin reiterated PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh’s statement that the party has yet to receive an official membership application from Tengku Zafrul.

He noted that Zafrul’s inclusion in PKR would strengthen the party and improve collaborative efforts, citing past cooperation when Zafrul was finance minister.

“Now, as the minister of investment, trade and industry, we’re also collaborating in sectors such as aerospace and semiconductors.

“We already have a strong working relationship, and I believe it will only improve,” he said.

Amirudin also said discussions had been held with Umno to establish mutual understanding following Tengku Zafrul’s decision to leave the party.

“There had been talk of Tengku Zafrul joining since last year. I believe an understanding can or has been reached — I’m not fully informed on that matter,” he added.

Yesterday, Tengku Zafrul said he has resigned from Umno and announced plans to apply for membership in political ally PKR.

The investment, trade and industry minister is also vacating his seat on the Umno Supreme Council as well as his position as its Kota Raja division chief.

KUALA LUMPUR, May 31 – PKR today said that it has yet to receive an official membership application from Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, despite his recent announcement that he is leaving Umno to join the party,

Its secretary-general Fuziah Salleh said all membership applications must be submitted online and would undergo the party’s standard vetting process before being deliberated by the central leadership council.

“The application will then be processed and presented at the party’s central leadership council meeting,” she said in a press statement here.

“It will be thoroughly considered before a decision is made, taking into account various perspectives, including the views of our allies in the Unity government and grassroots.”

Fuziah also mentioned that she had been informed of Tengku Zafrul’s upcoming Haj pilgrimage and wished him a safe journey.

Yesterday, Tengku Zafrul said he has resigned from Umno and announced plans to apply for membership in political ally PKR.

The investment, trade and industry minister is also vacating his seat on the Umno Supreme Council as well as his position as its Kota Raja division chief.

Lsat night, Umno secretary-general Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki also said the party had yet to officially receive the letter of resignation from Tengku Zafrul.

Tengku Zafrul previously said that he had joined Umno back in 1997. He served as CIMB Group chief executive for six years before resigning from his post after being appointed senator and the country’s finance minister in 2020.

He had contested the Kuala Selangor parliamentary seat in the 15th general election but was defeated by Parti Amanah Negara’s Datuk Seri Dzulkefly Ahmad.

KUALA LUMPUR, May 31 — Umno has yet to officially receive the letter of resignation from supreme council member Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, said secretary-general Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.

In a statement tonight, Asyraf Wajdi said Umno takes seriously the intention of the Kota Raja Umno Division chief to resign in order to join Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR).

“It is highly inappropriate for any party within the Unity Government to accept membership applications from members of other parties indiscriminately.

“This is to avoid disharmony among the parties in the Unity Government coalition, which could fuel ongoing prejudice and suspicion regarding the level of solidarity, sincerity and trust among grassroots members,” he said.

Meanwhile, PKR secretary-general Dr Fuziah Salleh told Bernama she would comment on the matter yesterday.

Earlier yesterday, Tengku Zafrul announced his resignation as Umno Supreme Council member, Kota Raja Umno Division chief, and Umno member.
