Floods hit Perak, four relief centres opened in Taiping

IPOH, Oct 4 — Four temporary relief centres (PPS) were opened in Taiping last night to house 202 victims from 65 families after floods hit the Larut, Matang and Selama district following heavy rain.
The Perak State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) secretariat, in a statement, said the centres at Taman Kaya Multipurpose Hall, Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Simpang and SK Matang were opened at 8.30 pm, while the PPS at SK Matang Gelugor began operating at 10.30 pm.
As of 6 am today, 31 victims from 14 families, comprising residents of Taman Pengkalan Makmur, Taman Pengkalan Setia and Kampung Sentosa, had been relocated to the Taman Kaya Multipurpose Hall.
Another 106 victims from 34 families from Taman Mawar and Taman Simpang Makmur were housed at SK Simpang, while 19 victims from four families from Kampung Matang Jambu and Kampung Telok Kertang were placed at SK Matang.
A total of 46 victims from 13 families from Taman Pengkalan Setia were evacuated to SK Matang Gelugor, the secretariat added. — Bernama
