The MACC has arrested four ex-officials connected to former prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki confirmed to Malaysiakini that the arrests were related to the graftbuster’s investigation into Ismail Sabri’s “Keluarga Malaysia” concept.

Earlier, a report from Harian Metro cited a source closely placed with the MACC, who said that a remand order had been obtained yesterday from the Putrajaya Magistrate’s Court.

The source said magistrate Irza Zulaikha issued a remand order for five days starting Friday (Feb 21) for three of the individuals.

The fourth individual was remanded for three days and released today, they added.

Azam was quoted as saying that the case is being investigated under Section 16a of the MACC Act 2009, which criminalises bribery.

“We request that the MACC be given the room to conduct the investigation without any speculation,” he said.

Last year, the MACC embarked on a probe into alleged corruption linked to Ismail Sabri, focusing on certain projects during the Bera MP’s time in office.

A highly placed source claimed there was alleged corruption in contracts linked to promoting the “Keluarga Malaysia” concept introduced by the then-prime minister in August 2021.
