Mahathir Fires Back at Anwar: “Stop Lying About My Family's Wealth”

Former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad has launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, accusing him of lying about Mahathir's family wealth.

In a statement, Mahathir denied Anwar's claims that he had misused his power to enrich his family. Mahathir also claimed that Anwar had forbidden foreigners from meeting with him, a claim that Anwar has since denied.

Mahathir questioned Anwar's credibility, saying that the Prime Minister has a history of lying. "It's not enough that people have already labeled him as someone who lies every time he opens his mouth," Mahathir said.

Mahathir also took issue with Anwar's claims about his son's wealth, citing a statement by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief Azam Baki. Mahathir said that his son's actual wealth is significantly lower than what Anwar had claimed.

Mahathir also pointed out that the MACC had found no evidence of him using his position to enrich his family. "Despite his claims, Anwar has not been able to produce a single shred of evidence to support his allegations," Mahathir said.

The war of words between Mahathir and Anwar is the latest development in a long-standing feud between the two leaders. The controversy has sparked intense debate and speculation in Malaysia, with many calling for an end to the infighting and a focus on the country's pressing issues.

Mahathir's statement also includes a counteraccusation against Anwar, claiming that Anwar's family had received shares, contracts, and other benefits from the government during Anwar's tenure as Finance Minister. Mahathir pointed out that these allegations had been previously reported by the media and were even displayed at the PWTC during that time.

Mahathir's counteraccusation appears to be an attempt to shift the focus away from Anwar's allegations against him and onto Anwar's own alleged wrongdoing. By bringing up these past allegations, it implies that Anwar is guilty of the same kind of corruption and nepotism that he has been accusing Mahathir of.
