Summary
- DAP MP Lim Lip Eng says former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad cannot accept the fact that Anwar Ibrahim is now the prime minister.
- He tells the nonagenarian that the problems in Malaysia stem from when he reigned for 22 years.
As Dr Mahathir Mohamad approaches his 100th birthday, he remains fixated on undermining Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, relentlessly seeking ways to bring him down, said Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng.
According to the DAP lawmaker, the root of Mahathir’s obsession is simple - his ego.
“Mahathir cannot accept that Anwar is now the prime minister.
“His ego compels him to remain the singular figure of greatness, and anyone who refuses to conform to his views is belittled. But Malaysians are tired of revenge politics and endless power struggles,” he stated.
‘It’s as if Malaysia’s problems began in 2022’
Lim argued that Anwar inherited a struggling economy and a deeply flawed political system - problems stemming from past policies, particularly during Mahathir’s tenure.
“Instead of offering solutions, Mahathir continues to attack,” he said.

Lim stressed that Malaysia needs bold leadership, not an emotional voice clinging to past grievances.
“Mahathir has governed twice, and both times, the country faced turmoil after his departure. So, who really failed?
“Anwar has led for just over two years, yet Mahathir behaves as if all of Malaysia’s problems began in 2022,” he added.
‘Consider your legacy’
While acknowledging Mahathir’s right to speak, Lim urged the former premier to adopt a more responsible and constructive approach if he wanted to be respected as a statesperson.
“If he truly cares about Malaysia’s future, he should allow the current leadership the space to prove itself instead of reviving old grudges.
“At nearly a century old, Mahathir must seriously consider the legacy he wants to leave behind,” he said.
Lim was responding to the former premier’s latest rant against his successor, whom he accused of being a serial liar.
Earlier, Mahathir claimed that Anwar blocked visiting foreign leaders from meeting him. The prime minister has denied this.
