As Sabah’s Warisan govt hangs by a thread, all roads leading to Istana Negeri in KK cordoned off by cops

KOTA KINABALU, July 29 ― As the fate of Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal’s government hangs in the balance, all roads leading to the Istana Negeri here have been cordoned off by the police.

Sabah is in a state of tension again, reminiscent of the post-May 9 hung assembly as both Shafie and his long-time political archenemy Tan Sri Musa Aman are trying to wrest power again.

Police manning the roadblocks at 9pm said that they have been issued orders not to allow unapproved vehicles into Jalan Istana and shook their heads when asked if any vehicles from Musa’s camp have gone to the Istana.

“We might try to go to the Istana tonight; he has the numbers. I’m told Musa wants it to be settled as soon as possible, but wants it done properly so that it cannot be argued. So we are waiting for further instructions,” said a source in Musa’s camp.

Over in Shafie’s house along Jalan Tuaran, vehicles can be seen parked along the road, and party supporters are rallying around the popular east coast leader.

DAP Senator Adrian Lasimbang tweeted tonight that Shafie still has the majority.

Adrian Lasimbang on Twitter: "Warisan was always important block ...

“Looks like CM @mohdshafieapdal still have the simple majority on DUN Sabah. DAP Sabah remain solid behind him,” he said.

kt notes: Recall that in 1994 (whose government? wakakaka) someone had the gate to the Istana Negeri locked to prevent Joseph Pairin Kitingan (then "purportedly" newly elected CM) from seeing the Head of State in Sabah, wakakaka.

Pairin not defending PBS president post | The Star

Extracts of the Star Online (12 May 2018) reported:

That year [ie.1994], of the 48 state seats, Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) won 25 and Barisan Nasional 23. PBS president Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan waited for 36 hours outside the Istana Negeri gates to be sworn in as chief minister, a post he had held for nine years.

Finally, he was allowed to be sworn in. But in about a month, his government collapsed after some PBS assemblymen had ditched the party.

Malaysia to summon Philippine envoy over Sabah tweet
    FMT July 30, 2020

PETALING JAYA: The foreign affairs ministry will be summoning the Philippine ambassador to Malaysia to explain a tweet by Philippine Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr, who said that “Sabah is not in Malaysia”.

“This is an irresponsible statement that affects bilateral ties,” Foreign Affairs Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said on his Twitter account today.

“Wisma Putra will summon the Philippine ambassador on Monday to explain. Sabah is, and will always be, part of Malaysia.”

    On Wednesday, the US embassy in Manila said on Twitter that hygiene kits given by a US aid agency were “for use by returning Filipino repatriates from Sabah, Malaysia”.;

In reply, Locsin tweeted that “Sabah is not in Malaysia if you want to have anything to do with the Philippines”.

Locsin had also reaffirmed Manila’s claim over Sabah at a congressional budget briefing last year, stating that the five-decade claim was initiated during the administration of the late President Diosdado Macapagal and was pushed by Macapagal and his father, Teodoro Locsin Sr.

  2. Right, so we are to believe that the DAP assemblymen were lying, it was mere coincidence that 12 wakil rakyats all collectively and simultaneously decided to join Musa Aman to form a new government. No "signing-on fee"......seriously.

Anifah Aman's sons issue legal notice to Jannie Lasimbang and news portal for defamation

    23 Jul 2020
    By KRISTY INUS

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Law and Native Affairs Assistant Minister Jannie Lasimbang and a state-based news portal have been ordered to retract defamatory statements implicating the three sons of former foreign minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman.

Ahmad Firdaus Anifah Aman and his brothers Ahmad Zachry and Mohammad Azzidyn have denied any involvement in the attempt to induce the Kapayan assemblyman or any other state assemblymen to switch political parties.

Their counsel Ansari Abdullah in a statement on Thursday (July 23), said a legal notice before action has been sent to both Jannie and Borneo Today, asking them to retract and withdraw the defamatory statements or face court action.

“We have been instructed by the sons of Anifah Aman to look into and act accordingly on the defamatory statements made by Jannie during a press conference held yesterday (July 22) and the publication by the news portal Borneo Today entitled ‘Kami bukan katak, ADUN Kapayan dan ADUN Elopura lapor polis’ which implicated our clients.

“Our clients (Ahmad Firdaus, Ahmad Zachry, Mohammad Azzidyn) denied that they were involved in any manner whatsoever in attempting to induce the said assemblywoman or any other member of the Sabah Legislative Assembly to switch political party - nor did they appoint any agents to make an offer to the said assemblywoman or any other members of the Sabah Legislative Assembly to switch political party.

“We have earlier today (Thursday, July 23) sent a legal notice before action to both Jannie Lasimbang and Borneo Today to retract and withdraw the statements implicating our clients and to publish a suitable apology upon terms and conditions to be approved by our clients.

“If we do not receive a favourable reply within two working days, we have strict instructions to file an injunction and action for defamation,” said Ansari in the statement.

In the article which was published on the news portal on Wednesday, Jannie and Elopura assemblyman Calvin Chong were reported to have filed police reports separately following political agents visiting their respective residences in an attempt to induce them to jump parties.

The news portal wrote that Jannie, who filed the police report in Penampang, was visited by three men on Tuesday claiming to be representatives of Anifah’s sons.

  3. Sabah and Sarawak are problematic spoilt children. Need Bully Father to discipline them.

We should allow Bully to adopt Sarawak, they can become Bully's 24th province, and put in charge of the Southern Seas, and Bully pay oil royalty to GPS.

In the case of Sabah, Global and Local Bully can one-two-zom, retain Kota Cinabalu as capital.

    2. No fair. Name one Malayan who became rich tycoon from S&S natural resources.

Tiong, Ting, King, Hiing, Taib, Rimbunan Hijau, CMS etc etc all Sarawakian or Sabahan.

S&S politicians tipu the poor locals, tell them "you are poor because Putarjaya steal all your money, no oil royalty etc, you must undi me again in the next election so I can help you" but in actual fact it is they who robbed the poor.

Even the development funds from Putrajaya kena sapu like the 1.25 billion solar project for schools given to a Bintulu sewa kereta company and this one Rosmah got greedy and asked for a cut.

If Petronas royalty had been paid in the past it would have been sapued too, just like Sarawak is now planning to do via Petros... so watch out...

  5. Sabah governor please don't do it like during Sheraton Shake. No one-on-one interviews with assemblymen. Do in public. Just ask them to line up in car park, behind Musa Aman or Shafie Apdal. Have the press present to take pictures and conduct interview with all frogs. Let Sabahans see for themselves who they elected.

  7. You assumed alot, IF Petronas never existed, all oil belong to sbh n srwk, only give 5% to federal after net profit & tax, do you think the frogging still exist then? Bear in mind, if federal govt knew of these dirty politicians with those tycoons siphoning the funds why since mahafiraun's time no action taken? The rakyat can only choose among the candidates during elections, but to enforce the law, it should under federal that control police & macc. And if govt sincere, anti hop law should have been introduced long ago, not only talk when it is not favourable to the party. Bear in mind, mahafiraun & Anwar are the two who encouraged frogging to toppled the Sabah govt in 1994. So is that the fault of rakyat?
