FMT:
Dr M will keep digging up dirt to bring Anwar down, says Puad
Puad Zarkashi says the ex-prime minister knows that Anwar Ibrahim cannot be unseated from the top post simply through street demonstrations

Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad delivered the closing speech at Saturday’s Turun Anwar rally, which was estimated to have been attended by 20,000 people.
PETALING JAYA: An Umno leader today warned that Dr Mahathir Mohamad would continue trying to dig up dirt on Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in hopes of unseating him from the top post.

Puad Zarkashi.
Umno Supreme Council member Puad Zarkashi said Mahathir, who delivered the closing speech at Saturday’s Turun Anwar rally, knew that Anwar could not be toppled from power simply through street demonstrations.
“He will look for sensational issues to play up. He will dig.
“We don’t know who leaked the minutes of the Judicial Appointments Commission’s meeting. But that was a warning. They will keep digging, digging and digging,” he said in a Facebook post.
Puad also recalled a Johor Umno convention he had attended in 1998, which was officiated by Anwar as the party’s deputy president at the time.
He said former Johor Umno chief Abdul Ghani Othman had spoken against nepotism in his speech and called for economic reforms in the party.
Ghani also criticised the establishment of Danaharta, which Puad alleged was a tool to bail out crony firms, purportedly including Mirzan Mahathir’s Konsortium Perkapalan Bhd.
He said these remarks were welcomed by Anwar, who in his own speech called for swift reforms in Umno and the nation.
“Mahathir surely felt threatened, and I’m confident that was the reason Anwar was sacked, firstly as deputy prime minister and then from Umno.
“Mahathir was clever when it came to looking for solid excuses that would be acceptable to the rakyat and Umno members as justification for sacking Anwar.
“Sodomy was only one of the reasons, it wasn’t the main reason. The truth is that Mahathir could not accept anyone touching his family and the possibility of being challenged in the party elections.”
