Now it seems that Deputy Internal Security Minister Fu Ah Kiow has confirmed that the directive for policewomen to wear headscarves at official functions does not apply to all of them, contrary to what the IGP has said. He assured Parliament the ruling by the IGP is not a must for non- Muslim policewomen, though they have a choice.
Will the IGP’s preference represent a career-related pressure for them to comply?
The IGP has also stated that Muslim policewomen were encouraged to wear headscarves at all times, but it was not a disciplinary offence if they choose not to.
Now, why would he ‘encourage’ them? Shouldn’t he focus on sorting out his dysfunctional Police force instead of fiddling around with women’s dressing.
