Summary
- Sembrong Umno division chief Abdul Ghani Abdul Rashid urges party leadership to revoke Hishammuddin Hussein’s suspension.
- He says Umno needs Hishammuddin’s expertise to revitalise the party before GE16.
Sembrong Umno has urged the party leadership to revoke the suspension imposed on its former vice-president Hishammuddin Hussein unconditionally.
Its division chief Abdul Ghani Abdul Rashid said this is the second time in two years that they passed the resolution to lift Hishammuddin’s (above) suspension.
“Sembrong Umno members’ stand is clear, we want the suspension to be lifted unconditionally.
“I hope Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will consider this motion,” Sinar Harian reported Ghani as saying today.
He said this after chairing the Sembrong Umno division meeting earlier today, launched by Johor Umno division chief Onn Hafiz Ghazi.

Hishammuddin, who is also Sembrong MP, was slapped with a six-year suspension by Zahid in January 2023. Also suspended was former Umno information chief Shahril Hamdan.
Former Umno youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin and former Selangor Umno chief Nor Omar received the boot.
‘Constituents want him’
Ghani said Hishammuddin’s vast experience in Umno and the country’s administration is vital to rejuvenate Umno and help the nation’s administration.
He added that it is important to do so to ensure Umno is prepared for the upcoming 16th general election.
“It will be good if leaders like Hishammuddin are reinstated. He has his own aura, especially in Sembrong.
“And I’m 100 percent confident that voters in Sembrong want him to be retained as the constituent’s parliamentarian,” he added.
On Dec 8 last year, Umno supreme council member Puad Zarkashi questioned whether Khairy and Hishammuddin would work as team players if reinstated into the party.
He emphasised that the duo’s loyalty and adherence to party consensus are the main issues, not threats to Zahid’s position.
