PETALING JAYA: Three Indonesian men who are believed to have been held captive for nearly a year in a condominium on Jalan Dr Wu Lien Teh in George Town, Penang, were rescued yesterday.

It is understood that the three victims did not know each other, and their passports were held by a suspect on the pretext of securing jobs for them, reported Berita Harian.

The trio are believed to have had their feet chained to the window grilles of the unit.

One of the victims was reportedly able to inform his family in Aceh about his whereabouts before a complainant came forward to lodge a police report.

Police are believed to be still investigating the case, including identifying the motive behind the confinement of the trio, and the involvement of other suspects.

Four individuals aged between 40 and 55, including a foreign woman, have been remanded for four days from today to assist in the investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 344 of the Penal Code for wrongful confinement for more than 10 days, which provides for a jail term of up to three years and a fine, upon conviction.

  1. Strange...must be more to the story than meets the eye.
Foreigners are brought in to carry out specific jobs. They are of no use to the Boss if they are just chained up.

  2. 3 men held hostage in a luxury condo for a year - unbelievable.

But why no poop or peep for 250 hostages: men, women, elderly, children, BABIES, kidnapped and held hostage for 650 days (& counting), UNDERGROUND in tunnels, at gunpoint, some raped, some killed.

Let me sagest answer: because they were Isaacs, not Ishmaels like the 3 men in Penang.

  3. Whatever these three Ishmaels suffered, and I do feel sorry for them, it does not come close to what the Bibas family (Isaacs of course) suffered on Oct 7.

34-year-old Yemenite Jew Yarden, his 32-year-old wife Shiri and their sons, 4-year-old Ariel and 9-month-old Kfir. All four family members were held hostage in the Gaza Strip. Yarden Bibas was abducted separately from his wife and children and held by Hamas, while Shiri Bibas and her children were reportedly held by another militant group, the Mujahideen Brigades. Ariel and Kfir Bibas, the two youngest hostages taken from Israel on 7 October, came to be regarded as symbols of the Gaza war hostage crisis.
