Focus Malaysia:
Tongues are wagging over why ‘King of Boycott’ is not wielding samurai sword at Global Ikhwan’s biz
FIRST thing first. It is not that UMNO Youth chief Datuk Muhamad Akmal Saleh has not voiced out his opposition to the wrongdoings – especially on “the abuse and torture of Malay Muslim children” – allegedly linked to the Global Ikhwan Group.
In a recent social media post, the Merlimau state assemblyman took a potshot at detractors who accused him of being “dead silent” on the matter when he was the one of the very first nationalistic leaders to comment on the matter.
Obviously, the Russia-trained medical doctor has spoken but his reaction can be deemed “mild”, caveated with “IF the accusation is proven to be true” or in short, lacked the exuberance he portrayed when he mooted a “ceiling boycott” and “apology banner across all 881 KK Super Mart stores nationwide within 48 hours”.
It is this selective persecution that is coming back to haunt him as a pro-Madani backer Roman Akramovich (@SyedAkramin) subtly took a jab at him on the X platform.
“Ikhwan Global CEO, its top management and family members have been detained by the police,” highlighted the social media influencer.
TERKINI
CEO Global Ikhwan, pengurusan tertinggi dan ahli keluarga telah ditahan polis.
Syukur, keadaan amat terkawal. Setakat ini belum ada yang berkumpul depan kedai Ikhwan atau angkat pedang samurai. Sekian, laporan.
“Thankfully, the situation is under control. So far, no one has gathered in front of the Ikhwan shop or raised a samurai sword. So much for my report.”
The cynical post by Roman Akramovich quicky opened the floodgates with many likeminded netizens, too, wondering why Akmal who has earned the moniker of “King of Boycott” has yet to mull a boycott stance or mobilise his UMNO Youth wing to file nationwide police report against the Global Ikhwan Group and the long list of businesses under Global Ikhwan Sdn Bhd (GISB).
“AS (Akmal select) has become ES (Edisi Select) as he’s truly selective and dead silent. ” observed a netizen while another who dubbed him as an “attention seeker and extremist” suggested that he has to “string his words with decency” given he has recently been conferred Datukship,
One netizen claimed that he had in fact “standby for the eventuality of a boycott (at GISB-owned business premises) but left as there was no crowd”. Another teased that Akmal cannot be seen “wielding samurai sword at will for Japan might boycott Malaysia”.
At the end of the day, some commenters struck the chord right by contending that “in all likelihood, the samurai sword would only be wielded at Chinese-owned businesses”.
Others regarded as “very shameful” that “there’s not a single Malay Muslim NGO that openly opposes the perversion, crime and cruelty of the exploitation of children by this GISB”.
For the record, the police have confirmed arresting Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings’ (GISBH) CEO, his wife and several company leaders, including the son of a former founder of Al-Arqam (altogether 12 men and seven women) during an Op Global operation at four residential units in Tower A of Berjaya Times Square in Jalan Imbi, Bukit Bintang at 5.40am yesterday (Sep 19).
On Wednesday (Sept 18), police arrested five men, including the son of GISBH’s CEO and seized two recreational motorhomes bearing the company’s logo while they were attempting to flee toward Thailand at Bukit Kayu Hitam.
All the suspects have been placed under a seven-day remand order. – Sept 20, 2024
