Lebanon calls Biden's remarks on conflict with Israel 'not promising'
Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib voiced disappointment with U.S. President Joe Biden's remarks about the escalating crisis between Israel and Lebanon on Tuesday, but said he still hoped Washington could intervene to help.
"It was not strong. It is not promising and it would not solve this problem," Bou Habib said of Biden's speech at the United Nations earlier in the day.
"I (am) still hoping. The United States is the only country that can really make a difference in the Middle East and with regard to Lebanon," Bou Habib said in New York during a virtual event hosted by the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.
Half a million people are estimated to have been displaced in Lebanon, he said. He said Lebanon's prime minister hoped to meet with U.S. officials over the next two days.
After almost a year of war against Hamas in Gaza, Israel is shifting its focus to its northern frontier with Lebanon, where Hezbollah has been firing rockets into Israel in support of its ally Hamas.

Russia strongly condemns Israel's large-scale attacks on Lebanon — Foreign Ministry
Moscow strongly condemns Israel's large-scale military attacks against Lebanon, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in a commentary.
The diplomat emphasized that the latest escalation in Lebanon is deeply worrying. "On September 23, the Israeli leadership announced that the IDF (Israel Defense Forces - TASS) had launched an offensive operation, dubbed ‘Northern Arrows,’ aimed at undermining the military infrastructure of the Hezbollah movement." The Israeli Air Force carried out massive airstrikes across Lebanon, with dozens of settlements in the south and east of the country being targeted. "Hezbollah, in turn, intensified its rocket attacks on military facilities in Israel," she added.
"We strongly condemn the large-scale military attacks against Lebanon. We would especially like to emphasize our principled position on the inadmissibility of indiscriminate attacks that target civilians," the diplomat stressed. — TASS
Our Take: So Biden says that Israel has the right and responsibility to make sure that the attack on October 7th by Hamas, who are located in Gaza, never happens again... by attacking (and invading?) a completely different faction—Hezbollah—who are located in a completely different country? Which happens to be in the opposite direction, in relation to Tel Aviv, from Gaza?
That logic sounds about right for a senile old pervert like Joe Biden.
It seems that Russia is the adult in the room, and I agree with Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.
"We call for an immediate cessation of hostilities, which would prevent further bloodshed and create conditions for moving the situation toward a political and diplomatic settlement," she added. "We must do everything possible to prevent the Middle East from plunging into a full-scale armed conflict, the devastating consequences of which will inevitably affect everyone - both in the region and beyond," Zakharova stressed.
According to the diplomat, Russia is ready "to coordinate efforts with international and regional partners in order to prevent such a catastrophic scenario." "We proceed from the fact that the security of any state in the region should not be ensured at the expense of others," the spokeswoman added.
I stand by my speculation that we may see Russia take the lead on any offensive action that the Sovereign Alliance executes against Israel. Netanyahu is a cornered animal, and that is always when things are most dangerous. — GhostofBasedPatrickHenry
Lebanon cannot claim to be an innocent victim, as it serves as facilitator and infrastructure for Hezbollah's massive attacks on Israel. Over 8,500 rockets have been launched from Lebanon towards Israel since. October 8 , 2023. The day after the Hamas October atrocity.
ReplyDeleteIsrael has had to evacuate the entire 10% of its northern territory bordering Lebanon.
This Badlands Fake News article totally ignores this fact.
You mess with Israel, you can hardly complaint and claim innocent victim when Israel messes you back.
Mfer, u read the death toll correctly ke?
DeleteWho suffered the most casualties - the innocent Palestinians or those bloodthirsty Zionists?
Ooop… AGAIN, who messes with who?
Israel avoided casualties by evacuating and depopulating about 10% of its country that is closer to Lebanon.
DeleteThat does not make Hezbollah any less murderous in action intent and capability.
In Malaysian terms it would amount to evacuating all towns and villages in Perlis , Kedah, Northern Perak, Kelantan.
No country will kuai kuai accept that without eventually counterattacking.
Lebanon is no innocent victim.
You kacau Israel, Israel will kacau back.
Mfer, u haven't answered back yr own f*cked question of who kacau who!
DeleteConsidering the population count vis-a-vis landmasses, that Zionist state is a peanut enclosed within a coconut shell which it created out from invaded Palestine territories! It has amble space to do populace movements.
Palestine/Lebanon have not such territorial space for their populace movements.
So, back to yr mfering statement - No country will kuai kuai accept that without eventually counterattacking.
So do Palestine/Lebanon & the whole Arab world!
Comprehendi, mfer?
