Wong Chen comes under fire for being calculative, territorial over Putra Heights gas pipeline inferno
SUBANG MP Wong Chen has landed himself in the firing line in his quest to clarify a magnitude of confusion surrounding his lack of proactiveness in extending aid to victims of the Putra Heights gas pipeline mega-scale blaze – most notably that the fire took place in “Subang Jaya” (a state seat under his parliamentary constituency).
That he has seemingly ‘washed his hands’ by justifying that the tragedy “DID NOT occur in Parliament Subang nor in DUN Subang Jaya or DUN Kinrara” surely did not augur well with the three-term PKR lawmaker’s electorate.
“The Star, in particular, has been putting up videos, wrongly geo-tagging ‘Subang Jaya’, causing more panic for my constituents. I only have a simple message to The Star, please report more accurately,” Wong penned on his Facebook (FB) page.
This posting is to clarify a few things as there is a lot of confusion on whether the PETRONAS pipeline fire took place in "Subang Jaya".
My officers and I have been receiving many calls and messages from concerned people of Parliament Subang. Many witnessed the fire from their homes and assumed it was in our neighbourhood.

“Going forward, any request for assistance from victims of the fire should be directed to the Parliamentary offices of Kota Raja (MP: Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu) and Puchong (MP: Yeo Bee Yin).”
Although the justification of the 57-year-old technocrat/lawyer-turned politician is valid on technical grounds, his somehow defensive stance – by mostly being territorial – did not augur well with his constituents.
“Speechless. Honestly PH (Pakatan Harapan) needs to go back to opposition. PH bring more benefit to the country as opposition. I bet if you’re in opposition, you would have turun padang (get to the ground) and won’t write such post,” chided a commenter.
A few ticked off Wong for insinuating “not in my backyard, hence none of my business” when he should not have been calculative at all in extending humanitarian aid.
One commenter teased as if “the fire knows where is the constituent and boundary”, hence it did it best not to encroach into the Subang parliamentary boundary or more specifically “Subang Jaya”.
Another reminded Wong not to post uncertified facts in the future given his FB post om the day of the tragedy (April 1) erroneously pointed to “a Petronas Station in Putra Heights, Puchong”. “Maybe triple check before posting something so public,” cautioned the commenter.

The location of the fire is a Petronas Station in Putra Heights, Puchong (which is outside Parliament Subang but is our immediate neighbouring constituency). Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected and also wishing our brave Bomba luck and resilience in facing this adversity.

One electorate who voted for Wong highlighted that his Puchong Jaya home comes under the Subang parliamentary constituency.
“If you read this (Wong’s) statement, you’ll be disappointed that political divide comes into play when we should all embrace HUMANITY and EMPATHY or extending help first,” he commented.
