Zaid says PKR stands to lose if they suspend Hassan Karim

FORMER de facto law minister Datuk Zaid Ibrahim criticises PKR for potentially suspending PKR Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Karim, known for speaking on public interest issues and defending the Constitution.

Zaid accused the party of stifling free speech by expecting MPs to seek approval before voicing opinions, undermining parliamentary democracy.

Once a champion of free speech and democracy, PKR is described as losing its way, risking further disappointment among supporters.

Suspending Hassan, admired for his principled stance, would be a significant loss to the party, says Zaid.

“How can PKR be so dumb as to take action against its most outstanding Parliamentarian? How did he smear the party’s image? Was he trying to resurrect the image that had been soiled for a while by speaking out?

“He is outstanding because Hassan speaks on complex issues ordinary people want to hear. He speaks on matters of public interest, which is rare in the country. How many parliamentarians do justice to their oath of office to defend the Constitution and speak without fear?” says Zaid.

An X user, commenting on Zaid’s post said there is a limit to freedom of speech or expression, but Hassan has gone beyond board.

“There is always a limit in freedom of speech or expression. Do it within, but he has gone beyond board. No one is indispensable. His day with the party should be numbered. He has to go. Good luck. Fullstop,” says @AbdulAz67039163.

And Zaid, as usual, is thrashed by pro-PKR users on social media.

“Rubbish as always! Your bias against PH/PKR is obvious. You’re the champion of stirring trouble in Malaysia! Remember your comments on the six sacked by BERSATU? Forgotten already?” says @skumar176 —Nov 24, 2024
