Once they cheered TMJ when he had a verbal stoush with Minister Nazri, but now have told TMJ to keep his royal nose out of politics. Of course they have rationalised in their convoluted toxic minds why they could do it (the double standards), wakakaka.
The subsequent factor influencing or governing their currently different treatment of TMJ has been that they (practitioners of double standards) will NOT allow anyone, including temporary heroes like TMJ, to touch their 'sacred cow', wakakaka (no pun intended on the mention of Kamadhenu, the divine mother of all cows).
Well, since we are on the subject of Surabhi (meaning the 'fragrant one, or sacred cow) let's remind everyone of how arrogant Mahathir has been in saying “I want to use a 'keling' word. The 'keling' say podah (get lost)” when he criticised the EC.
Personally I am not against Mahathir employing that politically incorrect word as five years ago I blogged on a post regarding the 'keling' word in 3 Revelations on 'Keling' in which I narrated that:
I also explained why and when the keling word went from one with a proud pedigree to one racially offensive.
That transformation for the worse occurred with the publication of the 1963 edition of Cherita Jenaka or in today's ejaan (spelling) Cerita Jenaka. I am afraid you have to read my 2013 post to know why.
Thereafter, alas, the keling word was considered by the Indian Malaysians as racially offensive. And we also need to note a second factor, that the major critics of the keling word have been Tamils who arrived in Malaya (not yet Malaysia) aeons after the Kalingas.
Thus it's possible that the Tamils in not having any ethnic-political-cultural identification with the northern Kalinga (and thus also the proud pedigree of the Kalinga) that they (the Tamils) consider the keling word as highly offensive.
Anyway, without going deeply into how our dear Ambiga Sreenevasan and MIC treasurer-general S Vell Paari have been hurt by Mahathir's use of the 'keling' word when 'Tamil', instead of that politically-ethnically offensive word, would have done the job, let's examine the narration of another Tamil Aneh, Commander (rtd) S Thayaparan who wrote in Malaysiakini The prince and the forked tongue one.

Commander Thayaparan wrote (extracts):
(kt comment: wakakaka)
The same opposition supporters who go on about our “apartheid” state have no problem when the designated head of the opposition uses a term which Indians consider derogatory.
(kt comment: that's why I call them double standards hypocrites)Indeed, we get the same horse manure of the origins of the word as if its current usage is anything but derogatory. Not only do Indians consider it derogatory but everyone else except, of course, on social media where we get long explanations of the term.
(kt comment: mea culpa - sorry lah)
Try saying that to an Indian in real life and see what the response is.
Indeed, the last time Mahathir used the word – which he should know is a slur – a PKR leader said this - "Although I regret the usage of the word and urge Mahathir to rethink the need of using such words in future, at the same time, Malaysians must be cautious of attempts to divert attention" – yes, no kidding.
I am sure Pakatan Harapan supporters will make any excuse, use any justification to ensure that people do not forget that the goal of removing PM Najib Razak trumps everything else. If Najib had said it, opposition supporters would be telling Indians how the Umno grand poobah disrespects them and they should vote for the opposition.
I wonder how many racists, bigots, religious extremists, chauvinists and other kleptocrats it takes to dethrone the current Umno grand poobah?
And if the word is not a racial slur, I wonder if the Indians in DAP and PKR allow themselves or have no issue when their Chinese and Malay comrades refers to them as “keling”?
Sangeet Kaur (DAP) |
Kashturi Patto (DAP) |
Sarasvathy Muthu (PSM) Sorry lah, can't find a PKR Indian lady politician |
As someone who has been on the receiving end of such racism on these forums and in other places, I wonder if the next time I meet a political operative from Harapan they will refer to me as “keling”.
Mahathir, if he was referring to attacks against his ancestry, could have just said, “Let me use a Tamil word” but instead he chose to use a derogatory term and compliant hypocritical supporters, who slavishly follow the party line bend over backwards attempting to justify its usage. I guess we are getting a hint of the shape of things to come when it involves the politics of race under a Harapan government.
Then, of course, there is the issue of the young prince from Johor talking about the forked tongue one. I have had many emails asking me what I thought about the old maverick's comment. My answer is this. Good for him.
When the young prince was making statements about corruption, and race relations which opposition supporters agreed with, they were practically prostrating themselves in the comments section of the alternative media praising him as though he was the second coming.
They were reaffirming their belief in the monarchy system and pleading with him to lead the country. When his father made statements that were in alignment with their beliefs, opposition supporters were so enamoured with his statements that some of them even suggested moving to Johor.
All of this naked adulation was embarrassing because it showed that whenever anyone says anything which remotely conforms to opposition expectations, the Harapan faithful would fall on their knees, especially if it came from a Malay.
Harapan’s ‘chosen one’
Now people are saying that the royalty should not get involved in politics. What utter horse manure. For the majority of opposition supporters, the royalty should not get involved in politics as long as the royalty supports the Umno establishment. If the royalty says anything that remotely sounds as if they support the opposition or mention things that the opposition says, then this golden rule of the separation between palace and state is ignored by most opposition supporters.
When I penned Daulat Tunku, Stay-Out Tunku I should have titled it 'Double standards (1)', because I am titling this post as 'Double standards (2)', wakakaka.
And do stop embarrassing Aneh again with your awful double-standards behaviour, wakakaka.
Most Penang Chinese call Indians "Keling-kia"....
ReplyDeletetrue and we did/do that without any intent to insult or abuse
DeleteIn Cantonese, thats what we use to refer those from Indian subcontinent. Too without any prejudice, and becoz we don't have another name to call them then. Nowadays, we use the Mandarin word Indu-ren to refer them.
Delete"Not only do Indians consider it derogatory but everyone else" Thayaparan
Delete"true and we did/do that without any intent to insult or abuse" - Ktemoc (bull....)
Saya dididik dari kecil lagi bahawa keling itu adalah suatu bahasa kesat atau kata maki hamum, sebagai contoh, keling pariah, keling mabuk, keling pundek, dan banyak lagi.
ReplyDeleteApa pulak dengan rasuah? Dosa besar kah? Ataupun semua pun boleh dihalalkan?
Deleteuntil today i still use this word among family n fren spontaneously, i really have no idea when tis word become derogatory, n I always remind myself not to use it.
Delete"Apa pulak dengan rasuah? Dosa besar kah? Ataupun semua pun boleh dihalalkan?" tim loo
DeleteAsalkan mereka ini dapat free scholarship, free ini free itu, golongan tongkat ini will halal every crime and sin while claiming to be practicing muslims. That's why they have bent over backwards and will swallow ANY excuse to absolve their leader even when huge amounts of rakyat's money were found in his private bank account. They make no noise or may even applaud their leader's chau kar-ness like the grossly unfair and unconstitutional re delineation, ROS bullying, fake news bill, NSC unlawful law, etc etc. Halal? Muslims ? wakakakaka
So why are Penangites still using phrases like Keling Nga (Indian people)and Keling Botol (Bottle Collectors)?
ReplyDeletebecause in colloquial Penang Hokkien (our lingua franca), there is no other word for Hindu, Buddhist or Christian Indians
DeleteMuslim Indians can be referred to as mamaks
never heard of keling botoi (not botol) - the closest is bay-botoi (buy empties)
Among Penang and Northern Region Malays of previous generations, Indians were also referred to as "Keling".
DeleteThe great Indian Muslim mosque in Penang was actually named the "Kapitan Keling" mosque.
Isn't Ktemoc indulging in double standards and hypocrisy ?
personally I used to use the K word (in Penang style = kelinga or kelingaknia) in my days in Penang and KL without any thoughts of being racist, nasty or abusive, but since the Indians today don't like it, we have to respect their wishes. Mahathir obviously didn't give a shit about Indians' sensitivities
Deletebut the criticism isn't so much against him as against his devotees who would cry apartheid but allowed him to behave in that nasty way
DeleteLet's me throw another spanner here.
ReplyDeleteThe Jap has a derogatory term for the Chinese: 支那 シナ(片假名)& しな(平假名).
Prior to the 'arrival' (wakakakaka) the colonial pommie master, the natives (??) called the Cinapeks, orang Tionghua. With the arrival of pommie, the term changed to orang China. Then the influence of Jap to Cina by the ketuanan freaks. (Of course, one can argue that that's ONLY a spelling change with Bahasa Baku!)
Long story short, nothing derogatory with the form of the word BUT definitely with the tone! As speaking words USUALLY rhythm with the true intention of the mind.
But, as in many Chinese words, whose ancient meaning is derogatory then & becomes acceptable nowadays! More so again, the form conveys a different meaning when intoned.
Perhaps, as a wordsmith, u SHOULD 'educate' Ambiga, Vell & Thayaparan about the proud pedigree of the Kalinga!
Wakakakaka………
Not to mention wokou is a degratory word for jepun lang. I wonder what we should call kaytee.....
DeleteSlimy eel
In East Malaysia where Indian population is almost negligible & dun even have Indian temples, we also use the same word when referring 2 them. no intention 2 insult too.onli when i come 2 e West, i riealize there r so many landmines on racial sensitivities here. Shaking hands & eating with Muslims become a veli sensitive issue too. Gigantic landmines.
