PETALING JAYA: Anwar Ibrahim no longer believes in his former mentor turned nemesis, Dr Mahathir Mohamad, stating in a media interview that it is now “Que sera sera” after a string of broken promises.

In the interview with CNBC, Anwar, who is PKR president, said he took Mahathir’s words at face value during their initial meetings before the 2018 general election.

“He seemed quite sincere,” Anwar said, referring to Mahathir’s visits to his prison cell and courthouse where both were shown shaking hands.

He said Mahathir had told him to work together and “made promises in private, and in public and signed documents”.

Pressed if he still believed in Mahathir, he replied: “Well, not now.”

  2. A promise is a promise, more so when it was repeated so many times to the whole nation and also to the world in his many traipsing around as head of state then. It does not matter if one feels that Anwar is or is not suitable for the job, but Old Man did firmly promised but he now confessed that all this while he thinks Anwar is not suitable. In that case, why make such promise to hand over, not once, not twice but so many times ! Is this not proof of fork-tongue dishonesty and lack of integrity ?

  3. I am sorry but Anwar was naive to believe MM would keep his promises.

Anwar should know MM's true character and should not have trusted the old man.

Truly, I was very sceptical from the very beginning when it was announced that MM would give way to Anwar.

Moreover, MM ckeverly cultivated Azmin who openly defied his party President to support MM to serve out the full term. And Anwar did nothing..
