Shame on our secular authorities for detaining a Turk for religious issues

MM Online - Turkish author Mustafa Akyol now held at Bukit Aman (extracts):

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 26 — Police have confirmed that Turkish author and columnist Mustafa Akyol is currently under detention at the federal police headquarters in Bukit Aman.

“I can confirm that,” Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Amar Singh told Malay Mail Online when contacted this afternoon.

He, however, declined to specify what law Akyol was arrested for.

Akyol was held by immigration authorities at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport last night.

The Turkish writer was prevented from boarding a flight to Istanbul after speaking at a roundtable discussion and public lecture in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday.

The organiser of the seminars, Muslim group Islamic Renaissance Front, said the Federal Territories Islamic Affairs Department has accused Akyol of committing an offence under the Federal Territories shariah law for teaching about Islam without official credentials from the Federal Territories Islamic Council.

WTF are the secular police and the secular immigration authorities getting involved with the feral oppressive bullying affairs of a religious agency like JAWI?

Is this what the Malaysia International Humanitarian Organisation (MHO) meant by appointing the correct persons as heads of government departments to ensure Islamic agenda within the Government Departments would be preserved?

  1. It started with police providing security for Islamic Authorities on raids, starting back in the 1990's
At the time it was explained that police were merely there to protect the personnel doing their job, and prevent any situation from getting out of hand.

Now it has extended to police actually acting as enforcement "Deputies" for religious authorities.

And last year, there was the spectacle of the IGP declaring that he could not execute a High Court ruling in a custody case, because it conflicted with the Shariah Court.

Its a Cop-Out, as Americans say.

These extremist actions didn't happen in Malaysia in the 1990's or the early 2000's.

We must hold the current leadership accountable for its extremist actions TODAY.
The fact is all these extremist problems are happening TODAY as a result of current leadership policies and actions.

    1. It started from thence - read Lim Kit Siang's 929 and 617 Declarations which said:

The announcement by the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Dr. Mahathir Mohamad in Parliament on Monday that Malaysia is not an moderate Islamic state but an Islamic fundamentalist state has shocked all Malaysians.

Before his “929 Declaration” that Malaysia is an Islamic state at the Gerakan national assembly on September 29 last year, MCA and Gerakan leaders had been attacking the DAP for working “hand-in-glove’ with PAS to establish an Islamic State, proclaiming at the top of their voices that Malaysia is a secular and not an Islamic State.

But immediately after Mahathir’s “929 Declaration” that Malaysia is an Islamic state, the MCA and Gerakan leaders were the first to give their full and unequivocal support that Malaysia had always been an Islamic state from day one of our nationhood 44 years ago as if the founding fathers and early leaders of MCA like Tun Tan Cheng Lock, Tun Tan Siew Sin, Tun S.H. Lee, Too Joon Hing or even the early UMNO leaders like Onn Jaffar, Tunku Abdul Rahman, Tun Razak and Tun Hussein Onn would have agreed to multi-racial and multi-religious Malaysia becoming an Islamic State.

For eight month after September 29 last year, MCA and Gerakan leaders were trumpeting that Malaysia is a moderate Islamic state – in fact, Gerakan President, Datuk Dr. Lim Keng Yaik made such a statement only on Sunday.

But after Mahathir’s announcement on Monday that Malaysia is not a moderate Islamic state but a Islamic fundamentalist state, Keng Yaik and his counterpart, the MCA President, Datuk Dr. Ling Liong Sik would be the first to endorse Mahathir’s escalation of his stand from his “929 Declaration” that Malaysia is an Islamic State to his “617 announcement” in Parliament on June 17 that Malaysia is not a moderate Islamic State but fundamentalist Islamic State.

When did the Cabinet make this radical policy shift to declare Malaysia as a fundamentalist Islamic State, going against the 1957 Merdeka Constitution, the “social contract” of the major communities and the 1963 Malaysia Agreement that Malaysia is a democratic, secular and multi-religious nation with Islam as the official religion but not an Islamic State?

It is both sad and most shocking that the Prime Minister and all the Cabinet Ministers are not setting the good example of respecting and upholding the historical, political, legal and constitutional principles of the Malaysian nation by unilaterally, arbitrarily and unconstitutionally declaring Malaysia as an Islamic fundamentalist state.
      etc etc etc

Maddy on the other hand made that declaration, which I think was more political rhetoric at that particular time than anything else, which you insist the damage has been done, but he sure as hell contained the incubating Taliban and the satanic creep was not as widespread

  5. My analysis of the current climate of extremism in the country Is very different from Ktemoc's cop-out.

Najib in reality is a heavily morally deficient individual - long list of allegations of khalwat with actresses, Mongolian girlfriends, mega corruption, kleptocracy, ignorance of the Koran, with an even more deficient wife , Birkin bags, diamonds, diamonds, diamonds, Burj 7-star hotel stay, planeloads of London shopping which couldn't fit in the cargo compartment of the government A319....

To protect his vulnerability, and also promote the Hellish alliance with PAS, Najib is going the other extreme - enabling , promoting and protecting the worst kind of religious extremists in the country.

Notice that no real action is ever taken against these extremists ?

This extremist playbook is not new - it was carried out by Zia Ul-Haq, Pakistan's Islamist dictator.

Before Zia's 1977 coup, Pakistan had in fact been offically an "Islamic Republic" for 30 year since 1947. However, it was still a relatively open democracy, governed by institutions inherited from the British, with a strong educated secular elite.
Zia in reality was a corrupt dictator, but he used the smokescreen of pushing Shariah as the supreme law, turning Pakistan towards a "Caliphate".
Islam became a political tool to cover up corruption and dictatorship.

I see a version of that is happening in Malaysia today, but some people are too blind to see it.

The comparison to Zia Ul-Haq is apt and timely, and frighteningly so. You mentioned that 'some people' are too blind to see it...but I think some people like KT is not blind at all. He can see it very clearly, but like what some of us here suspected for quite some time now, he's being un-KT-like as far as his Ah Gor is concerned....see his inane reply " I am interested in Najib's Mongolian girlfriends..." According to court testimony by Altantuya's cousin Burmaa Oyunchimeg, Altantuya had shown Burmaa a photograph of 3 persons taking a meal together: Altantuyaa, Razak Baginda, and a government official. When questioned by the lawyer of the victim's family, Karpal Singh, Burmaa identified the official as then Deputy Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak

It is still an allegation, because the actual photograph is missing, but this was a witness testimony , recorded in court proceedings of the High Court of Malaysia.

Pleaes note Tian Chua was not part of the court testimony.

    7. This was what I blogged in March 2009 titled Did Najib Razak dine with Altantuyaa Shariibuu?:

I am against fabricating lies to attack someone politically, whether it’s the ’50 dalils mengapa Anwar boleh menjadi PM’ or the Tian Chua fabricated photo of a ‘French dinner’ or a salacious extrapolation of a photo of one sleeping sweetie ADUN.

I am referring to the current piranha-ish slander of Najib Razak, based on the most tenuous circumstantial evidence, basically all hearsay.

Apparently the local gossip goes, a French newspaper Liberation has revealed all, chapter and verse, on the Najib involvement in Altantuyaa Shariibuu’s murder.

And today, as reported by Malaysiakini in 'Of Najib-Altantunya and Disneyland', leng chai Azmin Ali, PKR VP and Anwar's right-hand man, raised it in the Selangor DUN.

Apart from some gory details about Altantuyaa being shot in the left side of her face by killers who are currently being tried in a Malaysian court (I wonder how Altantuyaa’s family must be feeling to have this published), the Liberation didn't add anything new to what we have already known.

But nevertheless this was the part that G.A.N (Gerakan Anti Najib) seized upon:

At the end of March 2005 the couple was in Paris, where they met with Najib Razak. A picture shows the threesome in a Parisian private club.

“Tuya showed me the pix. She said that one of the men was her boyfriend, Abdul Razak Baginda, and the other the “big boss”, Najib Razak. I asked her if they were brothers because of the names, but she said no, and that Najib Razak was the ‘prime minister’”, said Amy, Altantuya’s best friend (Najib Razak has sworn on the Koran that he has never met Altantuya).

According to a private detective, now in hiding in India, the beautiful Tuya was also the occasional mistress of the deputy Prime minister, who was introduced to her by Baginda at the end of 2004.

The above writeup is what Malaysians would call ‘tambah cabai’ or Penangites termed ‘kair liao’, adding the ‘tau eu’ and ‘lada’ to the ‘char koay teow’.

The ‘she’ who was shown the photo by Altantuyaa is Amy, Altantuya’s best friend. Sweetie's real name is Burmaa Oyunchimeg. She was in Malaysia in June 2007, as a witness at the Altantuyaa’s murder trial , as reported by Malaysiakini in Najib seen with Altantuya.

The Malaysiakini court reporter then was Soon Li Tsin.

This was what she said, according to Soon Li Tsin: “I know why she wanted to see Razak Baginda - I have seen pictures of Altantuya with Razak and a government official.”

“She (Altantuya) was having a meal at a round table with Razak (Baginda), a Malaysian government official and other people.”

Najib mentioned? Nope. Just a 'government official'.

It was only when my hero Karpal Singh, who is holding a watching brief for the deceased’s family, posed a question to her on the identity of the ‘government official’ that she replied: “I remember the name Najib Razak, they had the same name, ‘Razak’. I thought they were brothers. I asked her (Altantuya) if they were brothers.”

From here I gather two things:

      (1) She remembered the name ‘Razak’, and I suspect, probably not 'Najib'. To her, Razak Baginda was with a ‘government official’. If she remembers the other man as ‘Najib Razak’, surely she would have said so in the first place.

      (2) Her testimony was only hearsay ("I heard from Altantuyaa …"), in as much as the SD’s were all “I hear from … who was told by ... that she told him she liked it in the back ...” or “I have been reliably informed …”.

      Well, was Najib Razak involved?

Was there a French dinner for the three? [post-posting note: photo proven photoshop by Tian Chua. French officials also testified that Altantuyaa did NOT enter France during that period]

As I said, these are allegations.

And you are inanely diverting from the fundamental issue I brought up, which is Mullah Najib's support and promotion of Extremism in the country as a political tool and as a smokescreen to shore up his vulnerability.

To be sure, these are only allegations...

In 2008, while Mr Abdul Razak was still on trial, private investigator Mr Balasubramaniam Perumal dropped a bombshell.

He said he was told by his client, Mr Abdul Razak, that Mr Najib had had sex with Ms Altantuya.

    1. as I had blogged way back in 2009:

Did Najib screw Altantuyaa in her belakang as alleged by Balasubramaniam in his SD (Najib’s masuk belakang suspiciously/coincidentally after Anwar had a 2nd charge of sodomy lodged against him)?

Frankly, I don’t know because there is yet nothing substantial to provide some form of support for the above allegations.

In fact, Bala’s post-SD reporting to the police station, most implausibly without a lawyer for such a momentous event following the PI’s lodging of a scandalous incriminating SD against the nation’s DPM about the latter's sexual involvement with the murdered Mongolian model, etc …

Hey man, you lodged a SD against the nation's No 2 most powerful man, alleging you've heard he was giving it to the murdered Altantuyaa's in her behind, and you went to a police station all ALONE to answer police queries about your flaming SD?

… his 2nd SD withdrawing the first SD, implying he was under pressure from the Najib camp (real or staged) and …

      … his subsequent disappearance ...

… have made Najib look really bad.

All together, they seemed just too neat, too convenient, too suspiciously finger pointing at Najib …

      … which has been why I wasn’t convinced of its halal-ness (kosher-ness)

To summarize, the report in the French newspaper Liberation has nothing new on the murder other than, as I mentioned, the (alleged) grubby details of the tragic moment during the shooting and how Altantuyaa had allegedly pleaded for her life … but nonetheless still hearsay.

But try telling that to the G.A.N or PKR supporters ;-)

Bala was not the most dependable person. He was painted by PKR elements as a heroic whistle blower in his 1st SD which damned (at that time) DPM Najib, yet after planning for months with his lawyer Americk Singh on that damning SD, he "collapsed" within less than 24 hours (as if he had not planned for such a contingency when he wrote his 1st SD)

While alive, he popped in and out of Malaysia, each time asking for money, and telling the world he was in exile. How can an exiled person pop in and out of Malaysia?

All was hearsay, just on teh word of one hearsay perosn P Balasubramanian whose was notoriously mingling with PKR people, amongst them Sivarasa, the man who constantly has been in the background of the Altantuyaa saga

see http://ktemoc.blogspot.com.au/2013/02/the-missing-man-in-altantuyaa-story.html and for more see my following comments.

    2. Anyway, we arrive at the point I want to make on the League of Super-Heroes, the one hero who might be able to help clarify or enlighten us on the 'truth' behind the Altantuyaa case.

Lamentably until now, he has somehow slipped repetitively beneath the radar, mind you, through no fault of his but our negligence - no coincidence. Yes, I'm referring to none other than our dear Yang Berhormat Encik Sivarasa Rasiah (PKR).

Sivarasa has been coincidentally one of the common denominators in both SD's, the second case only indirectly by virtue of him acting as Mr Deepak's lawyer (a most noble profession).

By leaving dear YB Sivarasa out of our League of Super-Heroes, we have missed out on the "truth" about the 2nd SD and how a courageous private investigator who spent months with Malaysia's very civic-minded lawyer assessing the issues, reflecting on the impact and consequences, courageously going ahead to carefully draft a SD condemning one of Malaysia's most powerful politician and then, ...

... presumably after again assessing and knowing the risks involved, releasing such damning allegations against the (then) DPM, ...

... could, within a mere 24 hours, retract his allegations via a 2nd SD ..... because he suddenly became afraid?

One of the mysteries of the circumstances surrounding the SD's or just a series of coincidences?

Yes sir, we have been grossly remiss in not appealing to YB Sivarasa Rasiah (PKR MP) for more information, thus missing golden opportunities to probe deeper and more substantially into the circumstances surrounding the SD's.

We should rightfully have him enlighten us, right from the case's very Genesis in a Bangsar pub (initially Fogles, then The Backyard).

Malaysia's very civic minded lawyer, a very neutral person, has done his part, from helping Perumal Balasubramnaiam draft the 1st SD, to clearing Anwar Ibrahim from complicity in the SD, to clearing Cecil Abraham and Arunalpalam (both belonging to the 'noble' profession) from being the drafter of the 2nd SD, introducing us to the true words of Deepak Jaikishan (a la "Deepak said so!"), and condemning Najib as being 'linked' to Bala's disappearance.

On that last point about Najib being linked to Bala's disappearance, that Balasubramaniam since his 2nd SD has been in and out of Malaysia on a number of occasions, and now appearing again in Malaysia to campaign (coincidentally) for PKR must be coincidences.

Yes sir, we definitely need YB Sivarasa Rasiah to team up with Deepak Jaikishan and Perumal Balasubramaniam to reveal “the truth” behind the 2006 murder of Altantuya Shaariibuu, and not just how the late model liked it when Najib went into her behind, ........ all supposedly according to what she told Najib who then told Razak Baginda who then told Balasubramaniam who then told us.

Of course if Malaysia's very civic-minded lawyer wants to offer his participation, we would enjoy a wonderful foursome possessing valuable information.

      Maybe then a 3rd SD?

      Delete
    3. It is entirely possible the 1st SD was the intended declaration.

I'm not saying the 1st SD is the truth - we have no way of knowing one way or the other, and PI Bala is no longer alive to say.

It is also entirely possible the 2nd SD is a fabrication made under extreme life-threatening duress.
