JAWI dislikes commonalities among Islam, Judaism and Christianity

For aeons we and many of our ancestors have known of the connectivity, pedigrees and similarities of the Islam, Christianity and Judaism. And that knowledge has led us to the description of the 'People of the Book', meaning the believers in the same God of the Abrahamic religions of Islam, Christianity and Judaism, all of which came from the Middle-East region.

If I am not incorrect, Islam does NOT forbid marriages between the 'People of the Book' even without necessary religious conversion, which is to say, hypothetically, a Malaysian Muslim man or woman could marry a Christian and still be syariah-compliant if the spouse chooses to remain a Christian.

That currently is not the case as any Christian marrying a Muslim in Malaysia must be converted into a Muslim.

Leaving aside for a minute the history of much blooded wars amongst the 'People of the Book', I would appreciate from Muslim visitors some information, clarification or/and education on this point, one of many involving the 'People of the Book'.

Yesterday the MM Mail reported in its Mustafa Akyol: Jawi didn’t like my talk on commonalities between Islam, Christianity (extracts):

Turkish writer Mustafa Akyol revealed today that he was detained by Malaysian Islamic authorities this week for a talk he was going to give on the commonalities between the Abrahamic religions. [...]

“When they were done with their questioning, they handed me a piece of paper with Malay writing on it and told me that I shouldn’t speak again without proper authorisation,” wrote Akyol, relating his experience questioned by religious officers after a talk on apostasy.

Muslim group Islamic Renaissance Front (IRF) had earlier this week said Akyol did not understand the summons since it was in Malay, and authorities did not explain the consequences of not turning up for questioning when they talked to him in both English and Malay.

“They also warned me away from my next planned talk, which was going to be about my most recent book, The Islamic Jesus: How the King of the Jews Became a Prophet of the Muslims,” he added.

“We heard that you will speak about commonalities between Islam, Judaism and Christianity… We don’t like that kind of stuff,one officer had allegedly told Akyol, as related by him.

Was JAWI trying to prevent Mustafa Akyol from expanding on the similarities between the 'People of the Book', especially on inter-marriages and the syariah-approval for non-Muslims but of the faith of Abrahamic religions like Christianity and Judaism to retain and maintain their Christian or Jewish faith?

Whatever, whichever, what has been evidently clear has been JAWI uttered dislike for any information pertaining to commonalities between Islam, Judaism and Christianity.

What is then also clear is the assumption that JAWI prefers religious dissimilarities and vast differences among the Abrahamic religions, for only in such differences will be there be disagreement.

Divide & rule?

  1. people who seek commonality or common ground are naturally peace loving people, they are more humble, they express and share their knowledge and most importantly they do not shout on top of the hill they are the father of everything

  2. In reality , there is tremendous antipathy and suspicion among taxpayer-funded Islamic religious authorities in Malaysia towards Christianity and Christian religious organisations.

    This is not new, I have heard mutterings since back in the 1960s, but in the past they were kept in check. It was made clear to them they had to toe the government line as long as they drew a government salary.

    What has changed is that under Mullah Najib, the Islamic Religious authorities have been given license to openly espouse hostility and also take action against Christians.

    Under Mullah Najib, the funding of these Islamic bureaucracies have also burgeoned tremendously.
    Idle minds create evil and mischief , and so it is with these Islamic authorities.

    As for the Jews, needless to say Judaism is officially an enemy of the Malaysian state. I have a few old friends of Jewish descent who migrated with their entire families to Australia, New Zealand or USA.
    It is a practical impossibility to remain a citizen of a country which officially considers you and your religion an Enemy.

  3. why are only yahudi, nasrani & moslems regarded as people of the book? let's read & understand the following verses;

    SAHIH INTERNATIONAL
    Indeed, those who have believed and those who were Jews and the Sabeans and the Christians and the Magians and those who associated with Allah - Allah will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection. Indeed Allah is, over all things, Witness. (22.17)

    SAHIH INTERNATIONAL
    Indeed, those who believed and those who were Jews or Christians or Sabeans - those who believed in Allah and the Last Day and did righteousness - will have their reward with their Lord, and no fear will there be concerning them, nor will they grieve. (2.62)

    i. sabeans were ruled by queen sheba during the time of raja sulaiman. they performed major and minor pilgrimage to the kaabah. their practices were almost similar to the moslems'. ii. magians are the zoroastrians or majusi. they worship the light (an-nur) not the fire. one salman al-farisi (salman the persian) who contributed significantly in the prophet's battle of trench was a majusi.

    now, how about hinduism? the quran does not mention the belief by name, but again let's read & understand the verses below;

    SAHIH INTERNATIONAL
    Indeed, this is in the former scriptures, (87.18)
    The scriptures of Abraham and Moses. (87.19)

    SAHIH INTERNATIONAL
    Or has he not been informed of what was in the scriptures of Moses
    And [of] Abraham, who fulfilled (53.36&37)

    soalan; dimana kitab nabi ibrahim?
