DAP teases PAS’ ‘Derma Jihad’ as its Putera Heights gas pipeline tragedy relief fund sets to surpass RM1m

THE week-long National DAP’s online Putra Heights fire victims’ fund-raising campaign which has its share of criticism looks set to breach the RM1 mil mark upon the expiry of collection at the stroke of midnight today (April 9).
This comes about given a sum of RM883,134 has been collected as at 4pm yesterday (April 8), prompting DAP to take a swipe at PAS’ which rolled out a jihad donation campaign to raise funds from its members to settle RM825,000 in legal damages incurred by its Kepala Batas MP Siti Mastura Muhammad for defaming three veteran DAP leaders.
The three DAP leaders are its retired supremo Tan Sri Lim Kit Siang, adviser Lim Guan Eng and Seputeh MP Teresa Kok.

“Not a little but more than RM800,000 was collected for one individual alone (officially, PAS has stated on Dec 28 last year that RM925,451 was collected from its derma jihad fundraising exercise),” teased DAP on its Facebook page.
Hitting out at detractors for their bashing and slanders over its relief fund effort in aid of the Putera Heights gas pipeline tragedy victims, DAP reiterated that its online donation drive is for the convenience of “small-time donors”.

“Not everyone has the ability like Berjaya (conglomerate Berjaya Group) which has deep pockets. Some may want to donate RM50 or RM100,” justified the party’s secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook.
“So, it is clear here that our relief fund is to tailor to the requests of generous Malaysians with DAP coming forward to facilitate their channelling of aid.”
Added Loke who is also the Transport Minister: “So for those who criticise, I will tell them that their action constitutes a big sin. Criticising people who want to help the victims of this disaster is indeed a big sin.” – April 9, 2025
