Mat Sabu denies Amanah against Najib’s pardon bid
Mohamad Sabu
KUALA LUMPUR, April 30, 2023: Amanah president Mohamad Sabu has dismissed a statement by the party’s communications director Khalid Abdul Samad, which objects against Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s bid for a royal pardon.
He categorised Khalid’s statement as a personal opinion.
Stressing that Khalid’s statement does not represent the party’s stance, Mohamad, who is popularly known as Mat Sabu said everyone had a right to offer his or her opinion as enshrined under the Federal Constitution.
“However, in an organisational context, the views of individuals do not represent the organisation or party unless an official decision was reached in a meeting,” he said in a statement.
Mohamad also said that all component parties in Pakatan Harapan (PH) are subject to the coalition’s decision which will prevail in the event of any conflict.
He urged all quarters to leave it up to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to decide on the former prime minister’s application for a royal pardon.
Najib is currently serving a 12-year jail sentence for corruption.
Several Umno leaders have demanded for Khalid to retract his statement failing which the party would retaliate by ending cooperation with Amanah.
While the Constitution gives the Agong discretion for conferring Royal Pardons , it is clear that the discretion is expected to be exercised in the interest of justice and the Public Interest..
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing wrong with interested parties weighing in on where they believe Public Interest lies on the matter of Najib's Royal Pardon.
UMNO is trying to blackmail and bludgeon everybody else into silence on this matter, insisting that everyone else must shut up while the matter is before the Agong.
We Will Not be Silent.

ReplyDeleteShouldn't they be ashamed to be associated in anyway with a national embarrassment?
Are these people elected to run the country for the people or ONE person only???
This is one issue UMNO will do its darndest to steamroll the Malaysia Madani government to fight for the jailbird's royal pardon.
ReplyDeleteZahid is very likely in the forefront as he will benefit later should he (Zahid) be found guilty and jailed. A few months in Sungei Buloh and a royal pardon can be arranged.
But, I hope the Agong will be steadfast and not be pushed to grant a pardon now. Moreover, Najib still have several cases pending. Or will the AG drop all those cases?
