This is far from over, says KJ

There has been no confirmation from Khairy Jamaluddin on whether he will appeal his dismissal from Umno.

PETALING JAYA: Former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin appears resolute despite his sacking from the party last night.

In a brief Instagram posting, Khairy urged Sembrong MP Hishammuddin Hussein, who has been suspended from Umno for six years, to “chin up”.

“This is far from over,” the former Rembau MP added.

There has been no confirmation from Khairy on whether he will appeal his dismissal from Umno.

The former health minister had taken his sacking in stride, saying he had been sacked by a party he loved and was loyal to. “Unbowed, unbent, unbroken,” he tweeted.

He was sacked along with former Selangor Umno chief Noh Omar for breaching party discipline during the 15th general election (GE15).

Meanwhile, Hishammuddin, former Umno information chief Shahril Hamdan, ex-Jempol MP Salim Sharif, and Tebrau Umno leader Maulizan Bujang were suspended for six years.

Khairy and Noh had previously called for Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to resign as party president following the disastrous outing by Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) in GE15.

On Thursday, amid speculation that he was going to be sacked from Umno, Khairy said he turned down an offer to join Perikatan Nasional (PN), reiterating that he was loyal to his party.

Umno Supreme Council member Puad Zarkashi said Khairy had acted out of line in blatantly hitting out at the party and Zahid while on the GE15 campaign trial.

While he admitted that he was unsure why Khairy was sacked, Puad maintained that the former Umno Youth chief’s actions were over the top.

The Umno leader also said Khairy’s claim that there were phantom voters at the recent Umno general assembly for the vote on the no-contest for the top two party posts motion was malicious.
